Guest guest
! That is amazing!! I almost slapped the GURU of Asthma in our city who said " oh if you are short of breath taking the bus to school, why don't you get a lift? " Ohhhhh so you are offering to DRIVE ME to school in your BMW! Nice! I also almost slapped this internal med doctor who said " You see, the problem is that you are ADDICTED to prednisone. " Ohhhhh yes, mugging little 'ol ladies in the subway for my fix. And I almost slashed my pulmos' car tires at 2 AM when I was in hospital, denied access to all albuterol (for a science experiment) and had used up all my prns of Atrovent for the day and was gasping like a fish out of water...thanks doc, hope you are sleeping well in your nice COMFY bed. Lol. I forgave him. Man is now all excited about doing a sleep study on me. He is concerned about sleep apnea. Why? Not because I snore. I don't but because I have NECK FLAB FROM THE EVIL CANDY. He thinks the " extra soft tissue " (ie NECK FLAB) is causing apnea. Another wonderful gift of the Evil Candy (whose current dyspnea is brought to you by the letter T for tree pollen and A for Asthma Fairy) ps Pat, the putty situation has died down. I think I drowned it with water. Now its just plain SOB on everything. Less entertaining I think.
Guest guest
Great . I am very proud of you. I am sending you cyber hugs! Everyone should take your example. When a physician is rude and uncaring, please get up and leave! There are many good physicians all over the US & Canada. Unfortunately there are a few jerks out there but there are many more caring & wonderful physicians who really do care & are genuinely concerned about your total well being. Just ask me. I had one say to me " how can you know that? " when talking about my asthma triggers (latex ballons). I break out with latex gloves on my hands but never thought about latex balloons. I put 75 latex balloons in my car about 10 years ago. A kindly old man lived down the road from me, he always brought me fresh tomatoes from his garden and watered my lawn for me. Being single and having a black not green thumb, I appreciated the help. He lost his wife about 10 years before that and they had no children. His 75th birthday couldn't go by without some sort of celebration. So off to the party store and home with the balloons. I had the worst asthma attack in years that night. I thought I was just suffering from clauterphobia from all those balloons. I used my rescue inhaler in the car and twice in the next 2 hours. 2 hours later I called 911 and was intubated shortly after that. That jerk told me latex balloons couldn't have caused the asthma attack. After that I researched and l found out latex balloons breathe out the latex gas with what ever gas is used to blow up the balloon. SO If your are allergic to latex, don't blow up balloons and certainly don't transport them in your own car. No one else needs to be intubated! Guest guest
tree pollen must go. its evil. a necessasry evil i suppose, but does it all have to happen at once??? i've been up since 1:30 (its almost 7) b/c i took so much benedryl (makes me hyper) to function during the day. i can't imagine how much i'd have to take if i didn't have xolair!!!! pollen count - 11.2. great, an over-achiever http://www.pollen.com heather <carrie72583@...> wrote: (whose current dyspnea is brought to you by the letter T for tree pollen and A for Asthma Fairy) ps Pat, the putty situation has died down. My doctor is so nice, he HIMSELF is going against the owners of his clinic and charging me MUCH less to give me the injecions than they are charging. I wouldn't doubt it if he is paying for it personally. He does NOT want me go go off the xolair because of the administration expense. I have my shots today a 11. They treat me like royalty in there. Guest guest
Thank you, it definitely is the Xolair with the added bonus of the weaning time and the couple of months I've been free of evil candy now! -------Original Message------- From: pyle456 Date: 04/21/06 06:32:18 Subject: [ ] Re: I almost slapped my doctor when.... Guest guest
Thanks . Good luck to you. I hope that you are able to see the same improvement over time. Took me about 9 months of Xolair before they began weaning me off of prednisone, and I am now at the 1 year mark of being on Xolair. I have been off of prednisone since February 28th. I know that we can all get there in time! -------Original Message------- From: Date: 04/21/06 06:32:34 Subject: Re: [ ] I almost slapped my doctor when.... ! That is amazing!! Guest guest
It really helped me to start drinking more water. When I thought I was hungry, I fought those evil candy cravings by grabbing some water and drinking until I was full. Soon I learned to ignore the ugly growl in my stomach that I knew was purely related to prednisone. -------Original Message------- From: psychoratzilla@... Guest guest
Thanks Pat. It's the full truth. When you get a bad vibe from a doctor, and you realize that he's just not doing you any good, it's time for a second opinion. I knew that I couldn't be under the care of a physician that called me obese to my face and told me that I would have to deal with it. I wanted to scream at him... " Hey buddy... MY fat is from prednisone... what's your excuse? " As he was not the smallest of men around the middle. My current doctor has a totally different philosophy and decided to work with me, not against me, and would never have said those words to me, even if Xolair had never been invented. Good thing to know about the balloons. I too am allergic to latex, and know better than to blow them up, but I might have gone ahead and transported them for my children. Guest guest
Jenn, Don't feel too bad. I ran into the a similar problem with my former allergist. I had been going to him for a couple of years. Apparently, in that time he became quite known and failed to control the influx of new patients. It seemed every time I went into his office I had to wait about 45 minutes in his office and then another 45 minutes to an hour in the examining room. During my last appointment with this doctor, I happened to look out the door and I saw him in another room partying with the other ladies in the office eating pizza and having a grand old time while I sat in the room. When he finally showed up, I mentioned nicely to him that I had been waiting over an hour for him he became put out and said there was nothing he could do about it. I had been having trouble with bouts of shortness of breath and much of the medications he recommended I had experienced reaction to (rapid heartbeat, extremely sore throat, shakiness, etc.). I also told him that I was having problems with Advair, I had been taking for a short while. I felt it was the serevent in it was causing all the problems (I felt this way because a prior inhaler I had been using Flovent, I think) had it in it and it was discontinued immediately by him earlier. When I brought this to his attention he said I was being a " baby " and this what he recommended for me and I should continue taking it. I got the immediate impression he felt was " the physician sent by God that could cure all problems. " At the end of the appointment after a lengthy discussion on how he had tried everything and how I could not agree on anything he told me there was nothing more he could for me. I found a new allergist in about a week. She has been open with me and since meeting her I trust her very much with my medical issues. She amazingly enough has found an inhaled power " Foradil " which works quite well. She has also started me on " Xolair " which has worked like a charm for all my allergies. I have been taking these injections for a month now and feel like a new man. I hardly use the inhalers and only take the Foradil and Pulmacort as support mechanism for the Xolair. These may even go away soon. Thank heavens for the second opinion. ~ Steve Zimmerman, CPM, CVOM ~ ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Currier Sent: Friday, April 21, 2006 10:11 AM Subject: Re: [ ] I almost slapped my doctor when....
