Guest guest
Hi Addy: I will have my 3rd Xolair shot next week -- I get 2 shots every 2 weeks, and my doctor says that eventually I should be able to go monthly. I'm not sure, but I think I feel significantly better (I.e. no allergic discomfort) for a few days after each shot, and then gradually get back to normal (underlying low-level allergic discomfort.) Since I've been on treatment for asthma (9 months) using Advair and Maxair, I seem to get a lot of upper respiratory infections. I'm wondering if it's due to Advair, an inhaled steroid. Does anyone have a similar feeling? Carol Addy wrote: Welcome to the group. Xolair has drastically improved the quality of my life. I think it is my magic bullet. Does it mean I never have symptoms? No, but I can't remember the last time I used my nebulizer. I have gone from having monthly upper resp infections brought on by severe allergic episodes to having about 3 a year. No more swollen, puffy face from sinus infections or pred.
Guest guest
CArol, Lungs are tricky things. It is possible that advair may contribute to your upper resp infections, but it is more likely that you are getting frequent infections either b/c you get mucus trapped and unable to move due to your asthma or that you have gotten into a cycle of infection b/c your immune system is just overloaded by allergy-infection-allergy-infection, etc. That's happened to me. It's not unusual to see short term improvement immediately after getting your Xolair shot and then have it wear off a couple of days before the next shot, especially in the first year of taking it. Good luck with your " recovery " ! Addy > Welcome to the group. Xolair has drastically improved the quality > of my life. I think it is my magic bullet. Does it mean I never > have symptoms? Guest guest
Carol, I have been on xolair for about 3 months. Just this week, I seem to have developed a respiratory infection with a lot of mucus and at night a lot of congestion a few days before my next shot. I use a CPAP at night. Because of the infections, I have been coughing a lot to clear my throat and to stop the ticking the forced air causes. I have tried heat with the CPAP but it seems to only increase the problem. This soon gets to the point of having to stop the use of the CPAP. Addy, did I read your response to Carol that after taking xolair for a year or more this would not be a problem and the respiratory infections should stop? ~ Steve Zimmerman, CPM, CVOM ~ ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of pyle456 Sent: Tuesday, April 18, 2006 8:12 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Respiratory infections/was Brand spanking new CArol, Lungs are tricky things. Guest guest
I personally have far fewer infections since Xolair kicked in. Read Pat's response on mucus build up and infections. I can't guarantee everyone will see that kind of improvement, but I'd bet on it! Addy > > Welcome to the group. Xolair has drastically improved the > quality > > of my life.
