Guest guest
Well, I'm going to bite the bullet. I've been approved, Xolair has been shipped to my doctor, and I'm making arrangements for a time that I can get the first shot. Unfortunately, my doctor won't allow me to give it to myself -- financial reasons, I'm sure, since I'm an RN and the person giving the shot will not be. What should I expect from the first shot in the way of side effects? Thanks, Carol

Some have redness and swelling at the sight of the injection but people get those with any injection. I have been on Xolair over 2 years now and can't remember any time I have ever had any kind of side effects. Well, maybe one if you call " getting of presnisone " a side effect (smile) I am going to wish you " HAPPY BREATHING " in advance and congrats on starting Xolair. Guest guest
I think we've had a small number of people report getting headaches, and a couple with some acne, none of which anyone could prove was Xolair, but no one could really say one way or another. It seems that most of us have found Xolair 10 times more tolerable than allergy shots (which I always hated - I love Xolair!). Good luck to you, Addy > > --- In , " Carol Corley " <mybouvs@> wrote: > > > > Well, I'm going to bite the bullet. Guest guest
I had headaches for awhile that went away, but do not know if they were Xolair related. The " soreness " at the injection site I figure is normal (injecting 2 liters of " stuff " with the viscosity of syrup LOL). I have had no side effects but I expected immediate results. Everyone told me it could take up to a year. I am at one year and and I am so much better. I am glad I did not get discouraged (actually I did but this group helped) as I progressed through my treatment. Guest guest
I also had headaches for about the first month, I'm pretty sure it was the Xolair (or at least my body getting used to it) because I came off of it for about 6 weeks and started again and had headaches again for about a month. All that being said, the change in my asthma and allergies has definitely been worth it, even if I had a headache full time. Syrup? I was thinking more of cold vaseline....lol
Guest guest
I had flu-like symptoms begin a few days after my first three or four shots. Very debilitating, but I'm glad I hung in. Now I feel much better for about the first 10 days after a shot. Then the last three or four days before the next shot (as the previous one is wearing off), I feel worse, and can't wait until it's time to do the next one. Guest guest
Pat, My understanding is that I'm the highest dose they will prescribe : 375 mg. every two weeks. Do they make exceptions to this? Will insurance cover a higher dose than has been approved in trials? I am overweight now and have often wondered why I'm taking the same dose as someone who might weigh 50 lbs less, with half the IgE level. (My IgE was over 1000.) Thanks, Meryl Meryl Maybe your dose isn't high enough. Please, please, please speak to your physician. We had a situation that we had to send 6 vials a month and a patient got 2 injections every 10 days. She was a rose gardener for telaflora and was exopsed 8 hours day 5 days a week, so she needed the change in routine. This is not recommended by Genentech but everyone is a unique individual. Guest guest
Meryl, I find it interesting that you only feel better for the first 10 days because I've been experiencing the same thing. For me, it feels more like 2 weeks. I've felt myself going downhill for the past couple of days (shot was 2 week prior) and today I feel horrible. I still have about 10 days before my next shot so I gotta endure it. It makes me wonder if my IgE count was correct (was quite low at 44, comparably speaking). It makes no sense to get retested because the results will be affected by the shot. I go back to the Doc on the 29th so I'll ask him and write back if I find anything interesting. msbehavior@... wrote: I had flu-like symptoms begin a few days after my first three or four shots. Guest guest
Unfortunately most of us allergic people continue to produce new IgE. This IgE needs new doses of Xolair to bind to it. That is most likely why y'all are seeing an increase in symptoms towards the end of your dose. I found that this decreased over time, the longer I was on Xolair. If you are only getting your dose on a monthly basis, and you're having a good ten days of symptoms before each dose, than you should talk to your doc about the possibility of more frequent dosing. Take care all, Addy > I had flu-like symptoms begin a few days after my first three or four shots. > Very debilitating, but I'm glad I hung in. Guest guest
I had absolutely no problem with my first shot or with today's second shot. I'm guessing your doctor won't allow you to give yourself the first shot not for financial reasons but for safety. It is possible but unusual to have a serious reaction to Xolair. Guest guest
hi gary, when the xolair first started to " kick in " for me, i experienced the same thing you describe. i felt so much relief right after the shots, and for the next 10 days or so...the four days until my next round of shots always went downhill. it seemed to gradually lessen as the xolair continued to build up in my system, and now, i don't get those highs and lows anymore. give it a few months and see. it took my almost a full year to get the full benifit from xolair heather xolair 2+ years McLaughlin <gmclaughlin1000@...> wrote: Meryl, I find it interesting that you only feel better for the first 10 days because I've been experiencing the same thing. Guest guest
, This is actually something new for me because I've been on the shot for about 1 1/2 years. It's just recently that my symptoms reappear after two weeks. My weight has stayed the same so I'm confused why. I'm about 20 lbs overweight so I'm wondering if losing the excess baggage will help. I have a lot of questions to ask the Doc at the end of the month. Til then..... heather <heaven1975@...> wrote: hi gary, when the xolair first started to " kick in " for me, i experienced the same thing you describe. i felt so much relief right after the shots, and for the next 10 days or so...the four days until my next round of shots always went downhill. it seemed to gradually lessen as the xolair continued to build up in my system, and now, i don't get those highs and lows anymore. give it a few months and see. it took my almost a full year to get the full benifit from xolair heather xolair 2+ years McLaughlin <gmclaughlin1000@...> wrote: Meryl, I find it interesting that you only feel better for the first 10 days because I've been experiencing the same thing. Guest guest
I have seen 450mg prescrobed every 2 weeks and 300mg every 10 days. They add up to the same amount. The 3 vials at 375, you use 2 1/2 vials each time. The insurance company pays for 450mg, so it is just a matter of speaking with your doctor and asking him to let you have all 450mg to see if it makes a difference. The 300mg dose is the same amount of vials, 6 a month, just a matter of how they administer it. Pat --------------------------------- Bring photos to life! New PhotoMail makes sharing a breeze.
