hi

My mom who is 55 yrs old diabetic with DPN is going to have a spinal fusion

with screws.

She has L4-L5 and her nerves get pinched when she walks or stand..

I am really worried.. doctors in India have assured thatshe will benefit

70-80% after the surgery..

i hear the negatives and feel bad but am an optimistic person.

So have left everything on the GOD..

Yes she will go a terrible pain, but i am sure god will give her complete

strength..

please i want to hear success stories..

Tony : they are going to use Titanium : but you said that hardware

was removed.. Do they remove it later, or it was removed for your case..

thanks

Hello and Merry Christmas!

I had a 2 level fusion in 2004. Same area. Titanium was used to help hold the

fusion mass together. I still had severe back pain all the way up to October of

2006 when I had the Hardware removed.. That helped ALOT! I still have back pain

daily but not as severe as it was.. There is Light at the end of the tunnel. But

remember that we are all different and we heal in different manners. Just

because one person is back to work doesnt mean that you are going to react the

same way.. Never do more than your body can handle! If you had fusion in

October, your body is still trying to react to a part of your body that once

moved to a part that no longer moves. It is a lengthy process and you should

take your time! Good luck!

Hello,

My name is, , I am new to the group. I had spinal fusion 10/11/06 of

L3-4,4-5. I have

djd and had been suffering for 9 years, had undergone epidurals,IDET and on and

on. The

pain had intensified after moving from our home 2 times and after a discogram in

July, I was

on pain meds round the clock. The fusion was the MOST painful thing I had ever

experienced.

I am curious as to what to expect in the next few months. At times I was able to

do some

things around the house if I took pain meds, but I think that wasn't a good

thing. I have done

basically nothing for the past week or so. I wear my brace when up and still

take pain pills

3-5 times per day. The more I walk, the more I feel like my legs won't hold me

up. Is this the

usual? Is there a light at the end of this tunnel?

My husband thinks because a co-workers husband is back to work(he works from

home at a

desk), that I should be doing more. What do you think, has anyone been through

this and had

a similar experience?

thanks, need help
