First Shots

I remember my first Xolair shots over 2 years ago. I was the first

asthmatic in the state of Arkansas to receive Xolair. I remember the

nurse saying: " Man, this stuff is so thick, it's like pushing clear

paste through this small needle "

2 years ago, i was on 50 mg of pred a day, nebbing with pulmicort,

xopenex and atrovent 4 times a day or more and Advair 50/500 twice

daily. The pred had caused me to become type II diabetic and I was a

nervous wreck.

Now: NO PREDNISONE! I neb with Xopenex and atrovent maybe 2 times a

day and am still on Advair. Some days, I don't need to neb at all.

This is strange for me, because my asthma is not just bad attack every

now and then, I have it all day, every day.

I get my first shot in a couple hours and am scared to

death.

Oh, I know it is stupid, but I had an anaphylatic

reaction to the flu shot last year. Now I'm just

paranoid about taking any new medicine.

Glad the shot didn't hurt.

I had to always bring both Epis and show the nurse before I got my shot.

No Epi=no shot.

I also had to stay the whole 2 hours.

I have anaphylaxis anyway, so I always have them on me. You should ask your

doctor how long he thinks you should have the Epis with you after the shot.
