You asked how I felt when I went to the hospital and was told that the lining between ribs and lungs was enflamed. It started as a cramplike pain when I would breathe and got progressively worse, Within 2 days I could barely breathe - not because I couldn't - but because it was soooooooooo painful I actually didn't want to. I would try to take " baby breaths " extremely shallow and difficult to do. It was also then that I realized how people with asthma feel. To make matters worse I could barely move. Any movement like - sitting down - standing up - turning around - was near to impossible and it took a lot of pain to get into the car and be driven to the hospital. That has only happened a few times for me but each time it was a trip to the hospital just to make sure that was the problem and not be a pulmonary embolism or heart attack. The problems I have now with breathing are different, It isn't that it's painful to breathe it's just that I cannot " catch " my breathe when I do anything. I had an acupuncture treatment yesterday (my 2nd) and had the strangest after effect. Boy- my head was spinning like crazy and I was so dizzy and it lasted an hour! Scared me AND the doctor! She had to take my blood pressure 3x before she could get a reading and it was really low 92/60. She concentrated on my lower backpain and it does feel a little better but last night my left hand index and middle finger woke me up and the pain was so bad I wished like hell that I could dismember it so I could get some sleep. I go to my internist this Monday to hopefully find out why I am running out of breathe so easily. And I will be asking for handicap plates for the car because sick or not, I still have to the stores and park in parking lots. I f I learn anything more I will certainly let you know. I always wanted to be a writer-maybe that is why my replys/answers/suggestions are so lengthy. Sorry!!!!!!!!!! Chicagoland Sharon

Guest guest
I had to laugh when i read your comment about the stiff middle finger thing, Daystar, because it brought up images of what happened to me last fall when I was at my worst. Everyone in the office commented that I was trying to tell them something!
Guest guest
hi ron, i'm sorry to hear you've been sick on and off. i don't think the xolair has anything to do with URI (upper resp infection). this is the first year in about 8 years that i've been URI-free from oct - dec. for me, as soon as i would get a cold, it would go both directions - to my sinuses and chest. late last winter (march) i started on biaxin daily, for its long term anti-inflammatory properties in the sinuses. at this point, the biaxin (or anything in that class) doesn't work as an antibiotic for me. i also got a pnemonia shot, since apparently it also helps fight off certain strains of sinus infections. i'm not sure if it was the pnemonia shot or the biaxin that's made the difference (or just dumb-luck) but i've been better this winter, so far. also, i've been more pro-active (as per my dr), and as soon as i start with a cold, i start mucinex 1-2 times a day. if mucinex doesn't help, i take entex (prescription - a little stronger than mucinex).the mucinex/entex seems to keep the gunk from settling in my chest/sinuses, so i guess it doesn't fester and become an infection. case in point, i think your URIs are due to the nature of asthma, and not from anything else. unless your URIs are somehow started off by allergies (due to enviromental stuff??) i don't think the xolair can be expected to help that. i hope you feel better!!!! heather ronaldcrpntr <cowtrail@...> wrote: I have been on Xolair for 10 months but in the last 4 months I have had two lung infections (upper respiratory). Guest guest
Ron, Are other things different? Have you been exposed to more germs than usual or had a lot of changes in weather or environment? Have you been on an airplane or anywhere with bad air? I'm getting over a bad sinus/lung infection. Started as soon as I got back from flying to FL to spend a few days with my folks for Xmas. We have a spread-out family, and I had to get presents together for 5 different Christmas events. I was worn slam out and then exposed to all those germs on the plane. Just wondering...and hope you feel better. Guest guest
& Ron, You are correct . URI's are part of our disease process. When we get to a point that the Xolair is truly doing everything it can, we may see a decrease in URI's. With the inflammation gone, the germs we breathe in don't have a nice warm dark place to set up infection. 2006 will be better for you Ron & better for the rest of us with Asthma!
