Just had my hardware removed on Monday. Went home the next day. Am doing very

well, especially compared to the fusion surgery last November. I really don't

think the hardware was my true problem, but we had to rule this out before

proceeding in other areas just recently discovered.

The surgeon let me keep the screws/pins. They were sterilized and put into a

clear envelope. They look positively primitive; like something dark and evil!

It is hard to imagine that's what they used, but if it had been something

breakable (like plastic), then I would have felt the opposite way - like they

werent' strong enough to do the job.

My pain is not too bad right now. Just getting up and going down, it hurts when

gravity kicks in and the body tissues seem to " bounce " . My Range Of Motion is

pretty good. But I'm not going to push it, especially since I've injured my

back TWICE at home, due to my own self-inflicted yet accidental injury.

BTW, I took some CT and MRI films to my neurosurgeon and he claimed to not have

even looked at them (they are of the C and T spine and he has only done Lumbar

area so far). So we asked for the films back when I was discharged from the

hospital. Apparently they put up a little fight, but finally handed them over.

Turns out, they put 3 sets of films into one folder with my name on it. And the

doc *had* to at least look at them, because they had some how copied one page

three times and gave those back to us (probably by mistake). :) I'm thinking

that is the area he considers suspicous. Why make three copies though?

How long has it been snce you had the fusion? I am 48

and was 46 when I had the fusion. But, he would only

take out the hardware in the back. Like Debbie, I ask

for them and they gave them back to me in the same

type of packaging that Debbie Had.

My name is Terry, I am fused from L3 to S1. I had L5-S1 fused first

they took out my hardware when they did my L3 -4 and

L4-5 fusion. I still have trouble but most of it is caused by scar

tissue.I also have severe nerve damage I have a spinal stimulator

implant. I will be getting a denervation in nov.

I have had them before they last about 10 months but the relieve is

wonderful.

No when they do fusions with cages that take a piece of you hip bone

or a cadaber bone grind it up put it in the the cage, which is put in

the where the disc is removed. The bone grows completely around the

the cage.

Adenervation is where they burn the sensory nerves so you feel no

pain at all in my legs and back. My left hip is hurting really bad

from where they took the bomne from my hip and scar tissue has gotten

so thick.
