Guest guest
LOL!! - Now that e-mail title took a double take. I had a single level laminectomy on my L3/4 lumbar back in Feb. 2001, and I think the total bill was around $11,000 US. I was fortunate with my insurance and ended up covering about 900 of that myself. That included just a one night stay at the hospital, though. When I had my 3 level ACDF in 2002, I had complications and spent an extra 6 days in ICU, and the total cost of that bugger was over $100,000. I got out paying 3 grand. I have heard something about a clinic in Ohio that is well known for their good work, and will see if I can hunt up the info. I'm in NC myself. I hope that you will give other options a try before surgery, such as PT and ESI's, but I would do PT anyway before a surgery to make my muscles as strong as they can be before they are cut. You might want to check out some minimally invasive surgeries, such as those at www.drjho.com. Good luck, and I'll see if I can find that Ohio info. jo > Sorry, but I hope it got your attention. > > > Anyways....... > > I am currently living in Northern Ohio, around the Cleveland,Columbus > area. > > Can somebody please give some basic COST/EXPENSE information > or share their own billing experiences, costwise, concerning > laminectomy(s), also, as well as the various spinal fusion operations > currently available, circa 2000+ ?? >

I'm assuming the " DF " in ACDF to be a " disc fusion " of some sort, correct?? $100,000 - that's scary. I would absolutely appreciate it if you could give me the name of the Ohio clinic. Guest guest
Got my attention...almost didn't read it cause thought it was someone trying to slip a discount pharmacy through being clever...laughed so hard, my back started hurting.. Anyway, I just (2 months) had a 3 level fusion with instrumentation, but isn't part of that a laminectomy ??? Anyway, so far bills are $68,000 (discounted to 60,000 the insurance) for 5 days in hospital and the surgery, $20,000 ($11,000) for the neurosurgeon, $5,000 ($3,000) for the assist surgeon, $3,000 (1,800) for anesthesiologist. I spent a week in rehab, $38,000 (11,000), plus misc expenses including ambulance transport from hosp to rehab, medical equip, follow x-rays, etc. Then of course, PT is still ahead. Most of the hospital bill was Operating " Supplies " , guessing the BMP, instrumentation, etc, that $30,000 grand in itself, plus pharmacy and OR room expenses in general, room, etc. My costs - $2,100...my insurance has a $3,000 gran out of pocket max in a year as long as you use preferred provider. I had already spend the other out of pocket prior to the surgery. THANK GOD FOR THE INSURANCE !!! I do live in an area (Monterey County, CA) that is notorious for high medical expenses...no comptetion, no HMO's, listed as one (if not the) most expensive medical places in country. Also the most expensive to live vs. income, but thats another topic ! What I don't get...all these insurance right offs...is this just something the Dr.s use for a tax write off...if my surgeon bills me for $20,000 and gets paid 11,000, if you don't have insurance, are you really going to have to pay $20,000 ???
