Guest guest
My son is 23 years of age and suffers from Kypho-Scoliosis and had a spinal fusion done at age 14. This helped with some of the problems unfortunately he had to have rods inserted 3 years ago. At the six week stage of recovery he started to lean towards one side and was in considerable pain. The surgeon thought that a screw was the problem so he changed the screw but it didnt fix anything. He was on the Fentanyl patch and he hated it and so he demanded to be taken off of it. He went thru terrible withdrawal that lasted over two months. Then they gave him Oxycontin. He was desperate for relief. Several months ago he went to a chiropractor. This has helped him the most in several years. He does no manipulations or cracking of the spine. He works only on pressure points. His theory is this... half of the muscles in my sons back were to tight before and after surgery and the other half to loose. Muscle relaxers were not given after surgery. The tight muscles pulled his body to one side. The chiropractor is working to ease the muscles. He is walking a lot more now with out the use of a cane. He is now preparing to come off the oxycontin and hopefully onto something not addictive. His pain clinic was interested in hearing what the chiropractor was doing for him. At first they were angry for even mentioning the chiropractor, but were very impressed when he walked in without the cane. There are other problems, he may have testicular cancer and we will be seeing the family Doc on Friday for this. He has a small lump on his left testicle and pain in his lower abdomen. He is also having problems with spontaneous ejaculation. I have checked into this and it can be a side effect from some anti depressants. He is taking Cymbalta. Has anyone ever heard of Cymbalta doing this? We are all very naturally worried. Lynda
Guest guest
Lynda, I'm sorry your son has had to go through so much in his life. Hopefully the current problem will turn out to be nothing much. I have no idea what the side effects for a man to take cymbalta may be, but I took it for a little while and I did not like it because of how it made me feel and the other side effects. Good luck to your son. Barb > > My son is 23 years of age and suffers from Kypho-Scoliosis and had a spinal fusion done at age 14. Guest guest
Lynda, How awful that your son has had to endure so much in his young life and now this! I took Cymbalta for a while, but like Barb, stopped because I didn't care for its effects. I hope you son is told it's something else. He is in my prayers. Guest guest
A couple of points I wanted to mention...first oxycontin is percocet in a sustained release formula and no more addictive than percocet or Vicodin. To a person who is truly in pain, I would not spend much time worrying about addiction. Phtsical Dependency IS something that will show when He weans himself off the oxy, but that is managed by titrating the dose a little at a time. Second, unless there's some missing information that you didn't share...it is VERY premature to think your son could have testicular cancer. A lump can mean MANY things. Take it slow and don't jump the gun. On Thu Jun 10th, 2010 9:46 AM EDT ladylyn5150 wrote: >My son is 23 years of age and suffers from Kypho-Scoliosis and had a spinal fusion done at age 14. Guest guest
Spontaneous ejaculation aka nocturnal Emissions aka wet dreams happen in opiate withdrawal. So does abdominal pain. The jump to a " cancer " Thought is premature...... poor guy talking to his mom at age 23 this would be enough To cause anxiety. Also lack of sex can cause the same Problem in normal healthy men who Abstain Deb rn Sent from my iPhone On Jun 10, 2010, at 4:24 PM, Babbitt <tpowell1977@...> wrote: A couple of points I wanted to mention...first oxycontin is percocet in a sustained release formula and no more addictive than percocet or Vicodin. Guest guest
I couldn't take cymbalta either. I do much better on the old school anti depressants. I agree with Deb,don't diagnose the kid,let the Docs run the tests. I'm hoping for the best for him. Please keep us posted!! He is so young to have gone through so much. Not easy on a Mom either.
