Guest guest
Hi Char. I am 48 and my hands fall asleep a lot. Not just sleeping. They do it while I am awake at any given time. The first thing they checked was to see if I had diabetes.. They said there are hundreds of reasons why your hands may fall asleep. They could not find out why with me. They know it isnt anything to do with my back problem. I just hope my legs dont start falling asleep. That would get a little scary if I started falling down. Does anyone have a pinched nerve in the neck? I also have a degenerative disk, 3 buldging disks(one sever), a cyst, and stenosis all in my neck. Besides pain, what problems can be caused by the neck problems? Can you have a stroke or heart attack from any of them? Sometimes one hand or the other will go to sleep when I'm sleeping. My primary doc doesn't intend on sending me to a specialist. I see the VA Hosp in Spokane. I'm 50 yrs old. Char
Guest guest
Even though I have have tons of sugar tests over the years, the diabetis didn't show up until last summer; nevertheless, my hands have been falling asleep for years. I've had my legs fall asleep when I'm sitting in a chair or something. I can still walk though. I have went paralysis from the waist down a few times when I was in Florida. I think it was the humidity and from where I broke my back many years ago. Instantly I was able to get back up. That was scary though because it happened twice in one night. Char ________________________________ From: jalbert <jalbert6855@...> spinal problems Sent: Sat, August 14, 2010 9:16:35 AM Subject: Re: Does anyone have a pinched nerve in the neck?  Hi Char. Guest guest
I did that once attending a fireworks display up here. I was sitting on the grass and when I went to get up I couldnt feel my legs. I started to panic. I grabbed onto my daughters lawn chair and pulled my self up. Stayed there a bit till the feeling came back and was able to walk. That was scary. Does anyone have a pinched nerve in the neck? Guest guest
Char My ex had all kinds of problems that stemmed from his neck, he had loss of feeling in his hands, he was falling down, loss of bowel and bladder control as well as sexual dysfunction. NO you can not have a stroke unless your carotid arteries are blocked or you have blood clots in the brain, and no you wouldn’t have a heart attack from neck issues UNLESS you severed your cord very high up c1 c2 c3 and you stopped breathing etc….. The fact that your doc wont send you to a neuro surgeon could be cause nothing is herniated…they do not do surgery unless there is definite herniation or the stenosis is so severe that it is impinging the cord. Guest guest
Deb, Well, I do think I have the herniated disk and I do have the stenosis in the neck. They did a couple MRI's of my brain looking for MS and found nothing. I can find the MRI reports from my neck if that would be helpful. They said my neck was that of a 75 yr old woman.  I know that I had a TIA before regardless of what they think. I know what happened that night. And it's the same beginning feelings that I had that night. I get them all the time. Sometimes they come and go for up two two months. Sometimes they stay gone for a few months. I get horribly thirsty, and the thirst came years before their was any sign of diabetis. I get pain in my kidneys, bladded, and up under my right rib near my stomach. I think it's my pancease. Guest guest
Deb, I also know that the medical field doesn't always do what they should do as they are just human beings and do get sued from time to time, and get away with a lot. I have a daughter that has multiple problems.  The primary docs wouldn't refer her to see anyone; therefore, I went on a journey of taking her to many specialists regardless of what primary doctors said.  Come to find out, my daughter turned out with mild scoliosis, spondyliothentisis, slip disk, spina bifida occulta, TMJ, ADD, auditory processing disorder, non-verbal learning disorder, polycystic ovarian diseae, and many other things. We never did find out why she has all the joint pain, why she knows when a major storm is coming, horrible charley horses, feelings of water running in her fingers, why one side of the body was larger than the other side, why she has severe migranes, why she was born pigeon toed, and many other things. And yes, I also took her to a few Rhemitologists who thought she might be developing something, but at the time, she was only about about 10 yrs old. I, myself, have been misdiagnosed many times; furthermore, I don't like to beat around the bush. I prefer seeing a specialist when a doc says he says there's no problem; especially when I KNOW there is a problem. By the way, thanks for your imput about the stokes. Maybe I need to have my arteries checked out. That's one think that hasn't been checked. Char ________________________________ From: Deb <i_ownaberner@...> spinal problems Sent: Sat, August 14, 2010 10:32:35 AM Subject: RE: Does anyone have a pinched nerve in the neck?  Char My ex had all kinds of problems that stemmed from his neck, he had loss of feeling in his hands, he was falling down, loss of bowel and bladder control as well as sexual dysfunction. Guest guest
My son who is now 18 had a heart procedure when he was 16. The pediatric cardiologist said that the SVT problem was from birth. They didn't know how severe it was unti they actually did the procedure. He had 2 valves flowing the wrong way, and where they had to do the cryo and thermo, it was very dangerous. It took 6 hours. He is fine now. All those years he had been treated for either what doctors thought was asthma or epilepsy. Amazing! I had even taken him to a cardiologist when he was about 11 yrs old, and they found nothing. I have a daughter who is 30; she was born with a heart murmur. Although the murmur moved, she still has one now. She is now on high blood pressure pills. Two years ago, my sister had heart attack because of a blood clot in her heart. She is 52 now. She is diabetic. My mother has a balloon in her heart. She is 75 and has had it for many years. She is diabetic. My father had a triple by-pass like 10 years ago. He is diabetic. My grandmother's heart blew up and she died instantly. She was on heart meds when this happened. The daughter I mentioned before that has all the problems. The cardioligist said her organs were so squished together that she couldn't see the chambers. I can't remember why I took her. She has Asthma. I have Ashma. My 13 yr old son has Asthma too. Guest guest
Char The best doc to diagnose a syndrome is a geneticist….you might want to try there…..also a vitamin b 12 deficiency causes all kinds of parasthesias as does carpal tunnel syndrome….. Your daughter has midline defects (as did mine, he had a cleft palate). The trip to the geneticist was enlightening…they measure everything,..including the distance between the nipples…you might want to check there…not that it will alter her care, but if it is genetic she would want to know….. Maybe I need to have my arteries checked out. That's one think that hasn't been checked. Char ________________________________

Guest guest
I get nerve pain in my right arm sometimes with some numbness...MRI never showed anything. Doctors now believe its a combination of carpel tunnel and facet joints and inflammation that are causing neck issues from whiplash. A lot of things can cause hand numbness I guess. Guest guest
Here's the last MRI: TECHNIQUE: A contrast enhanced MRI of the cervical spine was performed utilizing the psot axial and sagittal T1 sequences. FINDINGS: There has been no significant interval change when compared to the prior study at the C6-C7 and C7-T1 disc space levels with benign-appearing nonenhancing perineural root sleeve cyst without evidence of significant expansion of the neural foramina at these levels. The rest of the limited evaluatin demonstrates no evidence of abnoraml enhancement, as queried. There is no enhancement w/i the cord itself. Again appreciated are multiple levels of mild degenerative change appreciated w/i the cervical spine. Impression: Findings consistent with benign nonenhancing perineural root sleeve cysts at C6-C7 and C7-T1, unchanged in appearance when compared to the prior noncontast study dated Dec 17, 09. 2. Continued mild diffuse degenerative changes with the cervical spine. For a discussion on individual levels, please see the prior noncontrast report dated Dec 17, 09.  ________________________________ From: Deb <i_ownaberner@...> spinal problems Sent: Sat, August 14, 2010 1:53:07 PM Subject: RE: Does anyone have a pinched nerve in the neck?  Char That's your gallbladder,....funny my gf just said I am having liver pain (she just had her gallbladder removed on tue) I told the doc he told me to go to the ER...I said, hon where do you think your liver is....nope not there....oh ok.... CT Head W/W PROCEDURE: 2.5 mm axial unenhanced sections obtained from the skull vertex through the skull base. FINDINGS: The extra calvarial soft tissues are normal. The calvarium is intact. The visualized paranasal sinuses are mastoid and cells are clear. There are several scattered calcifications located overlying the convexity including one that measures 5 x 4 mm, consistent with the comparison MRI findings. The gray-white interface is well maintained throughout the cerebrum and cerebellum. The ventricles are symmetric in size and shape w/o midline shift. There is no intracranial hemorrhage or extraaxial fluid collection. Linear benign calcification w/i the left basal ganglia is additionally noted. Impression: 1. No acute intracranial process. 2. Negative unenhanced head CT. But what is the calcifications? ________________________________ From: " I_ownaberner@... They thought my ex had MS as well...cant always see MS on MRI til it is far advanced....they can do a lumbar pumcture and look at the spinal fluid to diagnose as well.... Have you had dopplar studies of your carotids? Pancreatitis is easy to diagnose...pancrease and lipase levels are thru the roof...and it is extremely PAINFUL....because essentially in pancreatitis the pancreas digests itself.... I would be happy to explain the MRI findings to you....in plain English rather then medicalese.... Deb RN Does anyone have a pinched nerve in the neck? I also have a degenerative disk, 3 buldging disks(one sever), a cyst, and stenosis all in my neck. Besides pain, what problems can be caused by the neck problems? Guest guest
I have had a cervical fusion and now I have a herniation below where the other was fused and another one bulging, so I do have a " pinched nerve. " It hurts like a SOB at times, but if I am careful and let it heal it will go away and come again later. It causes my neck and shoulder to hurt all the way down to my hand and certain fingers to go numb when I do things. If I am driving it will make the fingers go numb. Various things make it go numb. As far as I know it can't make you have a heart attack or anything like that. Why is your doctor not sending you to at least physical therapy? > > I also have a degenerative disk, 3 buldging disks(one sever), a cyst, > and stenosis all in my neck. Besides pain, what problems can be caused by the neck problems? Can you have a stroke or heart attack from any of them? Sometimes one hand or the other will go to sleep when I'm sleeping. Guest guest
Another thing....if you let a pinched nerve go to long it can cause nerve damage that doesn't repair. I have carpal tunnel and it makes my entire hand go to sleep and I wake up with excruciating pain in my hand(s) for sometimes up to five minutes before they return to normal. I know it is carpal tunnel and not related to my neck. I have had enough surgeries in the last three years that I don't want to do anything about the CT right now. It is a totally different type of numbness than the numbness caused by a pinched nerve. The pinched nerves in my neck cause my fingers to go numb but the pain is in my neck/shoulder area. The CT makes my entire hand go numb and the pain is in my hands and it hurts pretty bad until the feeling comes back. If that was your MRI report that I read earlier where you have lesions, etc. in your spinal cord, you need to see a neurosurgeon. If your primary care physician will not send you to one, find a new primary care doctor if you have to have a referral that will send you to one!!!! Demand that they give you the referral. It is your body, and you have the right to request a specialist when you have a MRI report that comes back abnormal. I went for years letting doctors do whatever they wanted to do, treat me for various things I did not have knowing all along that wasn't my problem. I was a mouse. I regret it to this day because it did irreparable damage to my spinal cord waiting so long to find out what the real problem was and getting it repaired. Do not do like I did and think that doctor's know it all. Nobody knows your body any better than you do!! Guest guest
A prior report from a few years ago said I have 3 buldging disks. A different doc back then sent me to a specialist at the VA in Seattle. ________________________________ From: Deb <i_ownaberner@...> spinal problems Sent: Sun, August 15, 2010 1:29:00 AM Subject: RE: Re: Does anyone have a pinched nerve in the neck?  Char You have a herniation and a annular tear.not bulging.your doc didn't even read the entire report..unless your doc is a neuro surg or ortho he probably couldn't read the MRI films himself... Guest guest
Deb, Is it true what Barb says? Can the pinched nerve really cause nerve damage? What happens when nerve damage results in the neck or back besides feet cramps.
