Guest guest
I know. I haven't gotten over the pain from the nerve block that got worse since the nerve block. I can't take anymore pain right now. I wish he didn't need it. My MRI as I've been told isn't terrible but tell that to my body. Barbara Megwin <Ravenfeather@...> wrote: OUCH - LOL - AND MORE OUCH - I will have to look it up but I already know I have enough pain without anybody sticking needles in me - that just sounds gruesome - unless you are asleep. It sounds sort of like the test they do for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - I had two of those - one they called the " deep nerve " something - and boy I though I was in the electric chair. None of my Pain Docs have suggested a discography so far - hope they don't. My MRIs and X-Rays look bad enough I guess - they seem to know pretty well where all the pain is. Thank you for the link - I will look it up. Megwin On Feb 18, 2007, at 4:26 PM, Barbara wrote: > A discogram, also know as a discography is used to diagnose back pain. > Here is a link to explain it. It's my understanding that a Cat Scan after is the norm (I'm scheduled for one) I'm just worried about so much radiation because cancer runs in my family. thanks Don
Guest guest
Dear Group: Having suffered with back problems for over 16 years, and having had numerious investigations from Myleogram to Epidurals/Surgery L4/5 discectomy. Now am having to face a discogram as the problems are still ongoing. Q: Has anybody had one of these? Do you feel the needle going in? Im told you arent " numbed " before hand, so I am rather anxious about that. The surgeons are planning a fusion but not sure which level until the investigation is done. Thanks for your help. Guest guest
Hi, the discogram isn't fun, but you shouldn't feel the needle at all. They numb as they go, the oly thing that's uncomfortable is the numbing medicine as it burns a little, but only for a few seconds, then you are numb. The uncomfortable part is when they inject the disks. It's supposed to re-create your pain when the disk that is causing the pain is injected. If I were you, depending on the size of your bulges, I would have L4-S1 fused while you are in there. Usually L3L4 isn't as bad. The reason for the multi-level fusion would be that after you have a fusion, the work that those disks were designed to handle is now put on the adjacent unfused disks and thses disks are not designed to handle the weight and pressure. Those disks will bulge and worsen if already bulging and you will likely end up need another fusion at some point. There is a new procedure out though that burns and obliterates bulging disks without surgery or the need for fusion. Have you been to a pain specialist yet? --- From: pbelluk73 <pbelluk73@...> Subject: Discogram spinal problems Date: Friday, February 27, 2009, 11:07 AM Dear Group: Having suffered with back problems for over 16 years, and having had numerious investigations from Myleogram to Epidurals/Surgery L4/5 discectomy. Guest guest
Hey that makes complete sense regarding the fusion. In reply to your question, No, but who referrs you GP? > > From: pbelluk73 <pbelluk73@...> > Subject: Discogram > spinal problems > Date: Friday, February 27, 2009, 11:07 AM > > > > > > > Dear Group: > > Having suffered with back problems for over 16 years, and having had > numerious investigations from Myleogram to Epidurals/Surgery L4/5 > discectomy. Guest guest
Yes, your GP would have to refer you. Even if your insurance doesn't require a referral, most pain clinics won't take a new patient until they review their situation and feel that it's a good fit and they may be able to help. So I would do a little research to find a pain specialist in your area and ask your GP to refer you. Painc clinics can provide a lot of relief and direct you in the treatment of your pain. For an online research, you should try " Pain management " " Pain Clinic " " Pain Specialist " along with your state or area to see what's out where you live. --- From: pbelluk73 <pbelluk73@...> Subject: Re: Discogram spinal problems Date: Friday, February 27, 2009, 11:32 AM Hey that makes complete sense regarding the fusion. Guest guest
I had a discogram done, I was numbed at the needle sites, I did feel pain when they hit the nerves irritated but not any worse than the usual pain, I did feel them taking out the needles(wasn't fun but only lasted a few seconds after each withdrawal). 3 out of 4 dics tested were bad!! I did have an upside to this procedure--the discs that were punctured, leaked enough fluid, that I felt great for weeks afterward cuz they released alot of pressure on the nerves. Hope all goes well--don't fear the procedure. > > Dear Group: > > Having suffered with back problems for over 16 years, and having had > numerious investigations from Myleogram to Epidurals/Surgery L4/5 > discectomy. Guest guest
Yes they do numb your skin before inserting the needle for a discogram. You aren't asleep though. Lexie
