Guest guest
In my opinion, they won't Rx the strong pain meds b/c they are so expensive.. I was in a situation a few months ago where I had a quote on 15 count 20mg Oxycontin for $300.00 cash pay out, now that is just about the most ridiculous thing I've heard to date. No wonder insurance is so costly and regardless of how much you pay on Rx coverage you still have to pay co-pays. I know this does not help the situation you are in Deva, but this is just an example why you can't get any help without ins coverage. If they cared so much that you didn't get addicted to pain meds, why can't they address the spinal problems and try to avoid the pain meds all together. OK I will step down off the soap-box now. Have you tried to apply for disability? Maybe that's the road you could take, apply for Medicaid for immediate assistance. The main this is not to let it get you down. I know you hurt really bad right now, believe me I went through the no ins for a long time, and I thought I would not make it. I wished I had found this group back then for support. I hope this can help some, maybe others can chime in and offer more suggestions. You will be in my prayers. Im 30 with 3 of my own children and a stepdaughter we are trying to get custody of. I just had my last child July 31st 08. I had my tubes tied although I kind of regret it but my body didnt do to well with the last pregnancy. So I have a almost 6 month old a 2 year old and a 7 year old. Im married and live in North Central Missouri. The pain in my hips begain shortly before I got pregnant with my 2 year old dissapeared during pregnancy then came back after pregnancy and has been with me ever since. I also had muscle pain in my legs. Chronic neck pain since my 2 year old was born.. I had other symptoms that associated with fibro so I was diagnosed with that. Other symptoms suggested spine problems. MRI of my spine confirmed a herniated disc in my lumbar area. Slightly bulging disc also in lumbar area. I did lots of research in the beggining of all the pain seemed to have came on after bith of my 2 year old suggested that my pain was a result of my botched spinal epadural. I thought it may have been arachnoiditis but the spine doctor said no it wouldnt be. But anyway I still think alot of the pain I have resulted from that. I was diagnosed with Fibro in JUne-July 07. Then found the hearniated disc which explained the hip pain. The herniated disc pretty much has been ignored by my regular physician and ignored yesterday with the pain doctor. I cant get in to see the spine doctor until March. I think the herniated disc and the bulging disc has worsened. I have chronic hip pain in my left hip and pain sometimes radiates to the knee and have had some numbness in my left foot in the last month. I havent gotten very far in treating the Fibro pain. The chronic neck and shoulder pain is what annoys me the most. Nothing other then Darvocet, Vicodin has eased the neck pain. Ive had physical therapy, tens, Trial medications like muscle relaxers made me way to out of it to care for my children even taken at bedtime I still was very drowsy the next day. Tramadol cause me to have muscle jerks so I cant be on that. I went to a pain management doctor yesterday who suggested Cymbalta but I cant afford it and prescription strength Aleve which hurts my stomach.Just regular Tylenol or IBprofen doesnt work with my neck pain and hip pain. So she prescribed Zanaflex which a muscle relaxer but works differently then a regular muscle relaxer. It hasnt helped at all. It doesnt even feel like its working. Nurse said it knocks most people out at first but it hasnt me. So Im back at sqare one again with the neck pain. I was on Noritriptylne but it didnt help my neck any. Just has made me gain alot of weight instead. Im frustrated. No doctor wants to put me on any Narcotic pain relievers because of the fear of addiction and the laws and the stuff they want to put me on I cant afford like Cymbalta or Lyrica. I dont have insurance. I recieve financial aid for my doctor bills but they dont help with prescription cost. Im open to any suggestions. Thanks for reading this far. Guest guest
Not her in Missouri. I got thirty count 325/5 mg of Vicodin for 14.00 and darvocet while I was on it was only 20.00 650/N100 60 count. But then again that wasnt just straight out oxycodone or propoxephine eighter. Now the Lyrica is way expensive for the dosage I would need to be theraputic About 200.00 monthly. Also I dont just have spinal problems but fibromyalgia as well. Ive barely worked in my adult life so disabilty is out of the question. Missouri was trying to pass a health bill for more low income families to be eligible for the adults in the household to also have insurance but that hasnt panned out yet. Im not disabled by Medicaid or whatever State Missouri has because my pain or disc problems is not a disabilty in their eys to warrant me Medicaid. So Im basically stuck in a circle. Some doctors Ive been to just kind have been like Oh quit complaining just not in so many words. That was the pain doctors response to me Friday. She didnt even want to listen or believe the hip pain Ive been having. She just said my files show nothing for it so nothing in that area. Its been over a year since my last spinal MRI so who knows there might be more damage. Thats casue of my increase hip pain and numbness in my left leg. If it wasnt for my kids I would have gaven up. But I need to stay sane to take care of my kids and Im not staying very sane with the chronic neck pain. Deva > > In my opinion, they won't Rx the strong pain meds b/c they are so expensive.. Guest guest
Yeah I can see your dilemma, I guess the proof is what you need. That's what I had to do, at one point I was loosing one ins. so I quickly got approval for multi-mri's to show all the damage to my spine, and when I got settled into my existing ins. I took all the mri's to my new PM, and that's all it took for him to see all the hard ware in my neck and what a mess it has become, and when he saw the lumbar fusions and rods that was done he got kinda PO'ed about the shotty work that was done. So needless to say I didn't have to say a word. He won't even discuss epidurals, b/c I have had so many in the past. But he is a good PM about the best I've had in years. He knows how much suffering I go through in my life. I feel for you, and hope you can find the way soon. I've heard it said that pain will purify your soul, I know only one sure thing about pain is it will bring you to your knees, especially when it is coming from the spine. I have been through a LOT of pain elsewhere, but that spinal pain will challenge you sanity. God Bless you and you family in this trying times. Good luck in your search Bama, The dog has seldom been successful in pulling man up to its level of sagacity, but man has frequently dragged the dog down to his. Guest guest
Hi Deva, I was reading that you don't have prescription coverage.... I know the pharmcutical companies (some of them) have prescription programs to help low income people get meds they need. If you google prescription assistance I think you will find some of them. I can really sympathize with you on that neck pain. I have had two neck surgeries, and it is again quiet a mess and causes me pain in almost anything that I do.... I also have fibromyalgia too, and arthritis everywhere. I was getting big toradol shots every week when ever I had an appt. with my dr. and that helped a lot. I had a lot of inflammation going on in my neck, and it did help calm it down. Maybe for something like that, since it is in the doctors office, the insurance you have will cover it. If you have a driver with you, you can get a bigger theraputic shot, it does make you just a little drowsy too. Hope this help you some... take care & God bless.
