Guest guest
hiya everyone, i'm sunflower an oldie, but goodie with sma-1. i had harrington surgery when i was 16. i had a terrible curvature by the time we found doctor harrington. he was the only one willing and brave enough to try. i had no work done on my neck, three rods, fusion, bone grafts from the bone bank. i almost didn't make it through, but here i am, age 57 now. my pelvic rod poked me on one side, so it had to be removed within a years time. my back appeared, cosmetically to look much straighter, but only so much could be done. i was very pleased and i could never, ever do it again!! my back still has hooks, rods and fusion intact, one hook dangling, but not hurting me. i am stretched every day in a small low temp, 94', heated pool; tub, six feet round,2 feet deep, head resting prone position in a makeshift plastic inner tube thang. i cannot go long without my therapy. i have increased curve some, but i'm very flexable from having the stretching done nearly everyday.for many years we did the stretching on a firm mat before switching to the water. the water is easier to do actually for my care provider, do to our ages, weight now as well as the movement required for kidney functioning. our bodies as i know our muscles have the ability to twist around the spinal stabilazation slightly, depending on remaining muscle strength. also, doctor harrington said, there would be some metal fatigue, but some patients could play football if they were strong enough. jenny if your back hurts; could you maybe see an orthopedic, but if no pain and if you feel at risk or fearful of surgeries,i would not think of having more surgery. i never heard of a tune-up,except for kids who are not finished growing yet. if you didn't finish growing at age 16, maybe your additional growth increased your curve, but not likely. i hope i helped by sharing my opinions and experiences. smile's 'n hug's, sunflower' lynne p.s. tufty, congrats on your new work. it sounds really neato. Guest guest
Lynne - Thank you very much for your comments. They helped quite a bit. I'm not having any pains now so I'll probably just stick with what I have. > jenny if your back > hurts; could you maybe see an orthopedic, but if no pain and if you > feel at risk or fearful of surgeries,i would not think of having more > surgery. i never heard of a tune-up,except for kids who are not > finished growing yet. if you didn't finish growing at age 16, maybe > your additional growth increased your curve, but not likely. > > i hope i helped by sharing my opinions and experiences. It only took me 3yrs.:>) Hello too!! How is your hubbies hand now? I was following your messages here as well as tuffs, regarding our care providing and back ups. I never could understand why good, caring, diligent people able to lift us could not be among the human race. I believe we are blessed and so fortunate to have one such person on our side and their health, safety and security should come first;also, just because they try so hard for us when others don't. hug's, sunflower' lynne

Guest guest
Welcome, Tommy! My brother's name was that, and he was younger when he broke three bones in his back, and had them pinned together. I don't know how he did it! He had to get the pins taken out, as they came unhooked (I have no idea, as I was younger when this all happened) and they took them out, and he seemed to be fine, at that time!. I am going to be getting a Laminectomy and Discetomy, on my L5-S1, and suffer with Radicluthapy. (If you know any of the info on these, I would love to know!) I got hit by a car, walking home from my son's school, right before Christmas. I have a lot of issues, and glad to get these two surgeries, but not a fusion,(Not getting that one) as I know they are very painful, but I think any surgery is painful, as I never had surgery! Just other issues. (Mitral Valve Prolapse, BP2, Sleep Apnea, and now the back issues!) Welcome, as there is a lot of different type of people here! Thank goodness! I don't feel alone, and you will not, also! Dawn

Guest guest
Welcome Tommy, I also had a fusion and decompression done. Although I feel better my x-rays show that the screws and fusions did not take. I hope my doctor has some good news for me tomorrow. wanessa TOM HARMON <longhairedcountryboy99@...> wrote: Hello my name is Tommy. Guest guest
Has anyone had a sucessful one or know of someone who has. I have not yet read a good testimony and am looking into it. I have multi level bulging discs and a sacroiliac that tends to shift, both cause pain in my back and both legs and knees. Today was the first my chiropractor mentioned it but of cause thinks I should continue to see him and try not to get any back surgery. I was doing great for awhile but has a set back and am pretty disgusted at this point. Any testimonies or advise would be so appreciated. Thanks, Barbara
