Guest guest
kathy, did you tell your surgeon he is acting like a jerk? i confronted my current neurosurgeon when he was talking down to me and asked him why he was doing that and he made some flimsy excuse but then he backed down and started to act intelligently. marsha

Guest guest
it is a damn shame that you are going thru that. but i would ask for another appointment with the neurosurgeon and i would tell him that i was very upset about his behavior, that i am still in pain and that he needs to order another mri at the very least. i think if you confront him and tell him that he needs to meet your needs, i think you might be surprised. i would also thoroughly check him out on line to see what his history is, etc i have been dealing with medical issues for years and i find that i really need to strongly advocate for myself to get doctors, therapists etc to be responsive to me. they just seem to become so immune and jaded but it doesn't work for me. i take my health very seriously and doctors always act like there time is more valuable to them or they are more important than i am. not so. but i refuse to let another human being intimidate me especially when i am vulnerable. i hope that you confront him and make him act responsibly to you. who was it that said speak softly but carry a big stick? best, marsha

Guest guest
Hi Marsha, No, I didn't tell my Neurosurgeon he's acting like a jerk. I had an Ortho I no longer have that did the SAME thing my Neurosurgeon is doing. Hell, he even told my husband right after my lumbar laminectomy BEFORE I even woke up from Anesthesia that " I would be 100% " .... Well, I have more nerve damage AFTER the laminectomy then before! So I guess I'm NOT 100%. My Neurosurgeon told me that this heal from the ACDF would take 6 to 9 months to get any kind of relief or even know if the fusion took...so then why after 3 months is he telling me, " call me if you have any more symptoms otherwise this is your last visit " ? I was shocked. I only had ONE x-ray of my neck since the fusion with hardware...that was 1 month after the surgery. He didn't order anymore x-rays down the road to make sure all is going well with the fusion's and that the hardware is still where it's suppose to be...... I just don't want to deal with this. I will just play it by ear and let my Orthopedic Surgeon keep an eye on me and if he feels I need to see my Neurosurgeon again...he can tell him. Most surgeon do get pompous with all the glory they get from everyone beneath them. ~Kathy~ N.Y. -- Re: Skelaxin and Soma ( was " NEURONTIN & weight t... kathy, did you tell your surgeon he is acting like a jerk? i confronted my current neurosurgeon when he was talking down to me and asked him why he was doing that and he made some flimsy excuse but then he backed down and started to act intelligently. marsha

Guest guest
I know what you're saying, Marsha...I really don't think he'd order another test to " check " on my neck. He keeps telling me it's a 6-9 month heal time so he'd probably wait that time period. Plus I know, he'd want me to go to PT...and with my lumbar area I went for almost a YEAR off and on and just before my neck was done it was 3 months of PT! It doesn't work for me... I have damage nerves in my lumbar area and before this cervical surgery I was told I had nerve impingement going down the left arm. I think that's what all this pain is....damage nerves in my neck. I've had this neck pain before surgery for YEARS....I don't think the nerve pain will get any better The pain has improved since surgery on my neck but it's not all gone. He told me he'd only be able to get me to 80% instead of 100% so I guess this is what I'm left with. I know his kind...my previous Ortho was the same way....very cocky and he'd never do a test unless HE thought it was necessary....it would really piss him off if I mentioned a certain med someone was on or a test they had done. He never liked to be told what to order for me, it made him even more stubborn. That's how my Neuro is....he's very nice and a good Dr. but I know he'd tell me to wait and see what happens after the time frame he gave me. I did tell him I had pain but when he asked has it improved any since the surgery I was truthful....I said YES...it's not a constant pain but it is still there at times during the day. I have an appt. with my Ortho on Tuesday, I'll tell him about it and see what he says. Thanks for the encouragement...if the pain doesn't improve I will go back to see him. Guest guest
hey, i also switched physical therapists when i did not improve. but pt takes a lot of work. like having to go to gym and do the exercises at home. this stuff is no joke. whenever i decide to commit to a program of getting better it becomes a total 24 hr non-stop gotta do this commitment. a lot of work and a lot of effort. it takes so much energy. anyway, i had my first epidural yesterday and normally they take a couple of days to cick in but i swear, i am already feeling it. i can lay on my right side without agony. and i had a really good pain day yesterday. was able to go to movies last nite. pretty amazing. i'm very excited about the prospect of the shots working. i am very gung ho on this doctor, dr. alicia carter. take care, marsha

Guest guest
NANcy, i have had epidurals thru the years. the first series was more than 15 years ago and lasted about 5 years. we are talking about going from crippling pain to pain-free. i then did a series of 3 again about 10 years ago, same results. and then again maybe 5 years ago, i'm not sure, but same results. i then went to dr. patel at roosevelt hospital and had one shot 1st week in april, one shot 1st week in may and 1 shot 1st week in june. i was not happy with dr. patel, i don't think she hit the spots that she needed to hit. one of the other doctors told me that she shot me too high on the second shot. anyway, i was okay for maybe 2 weeks and then boom. and then dr. frasier told me i absolutely had to do the spinal lumbar fusion. so i switched doctors and started over again. i do not want to do the surgery unless there is absolutely no other choice. and i feel that there are some good practioners out there and some crummy ones and that i have to latch onto the really good ones and make them work for me. i intend to do the whole series of shots. plus i am doing th, e physical therapy and the gym. weight strengthening to stabilize my spine. i am very hopeful that all this will work without surgery. incidentally, dr. frazier has a great reputation as a great surgeon. but his bedside manner sucks and i don't think he was totally willing to explore all the avenues before surgery. but, i believe i am going to be okay. however, surgery is an option if i have to go there and if i have to go there i will start researching surgeons before i go there. marsha
