Guest guest
Annie & Mark thanks for the support!! I can't believe they let me go home so soon. It's less than 12hrs since my surgery and I'm at home on email?!!? Even though I'm in Iowa, we have a Surgeon that is very respected. Dr. Chad Abernathy, 6 yrs at Mayo in Rochester Minn. He is now in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Might sound like a one horse town but next to Mayo and Univ of Iowa one of the best in the Midwest. Doc said it was easier to get at than he thought and I didn't bleed too much. )He said I could hurt in the hosp or at home, I prefer home!! A good friend of mine is a nurse, she is stopping tomorrow to change my dressing. I think that gave Doc a little more confidence. Along with the fact that I'm not a newbie to this spine surg thing. ( Pathology they said will be a couple more days. Not worried, it wouldn't help to worry. I can't spend my life like Chicken Little " the sky is falling " As long as I can manage my pain? Darvocet just to be able to sit here at the desk. Oh well no choice but to hang in and fight!! Bill, thanks again!! ) --- ann gourieux <fudgie4u@...> wrote: > Bill, > > Annie from Nashville sending the angels to watch > over you. Guest guest
It's amazing at the time spent in the hospital these days but after 10 surgeries I've found I'm more comfortable at home as long as I'm able to get around and use the facilities without any problems that's half the battle!! When my skull slipped off my spine and I had to do 7 days in traction before they could do the operation and another 7 days there it was a tough 2 weeks but when I got home and was able to do my daily routine except for the visiting nurse everyday to clean the pins in the halo and to make sure it was tight I wonder out after about a week on the couch and did short walks I got some strange looks walking around with the cage on for 16 weeks but walking and going for a ride is what keeps your sanity. I thank the big guy for my loving and caring wife for my last 26 month ordeal never has she complained or said why us! She has worked 2 jobs for the past 2 years to meet the bills and not once has she complained I wish there was group that could give the siblings and families of folks like us the recognition they rightfully deserve. Sorry for the rant I'm glad things are well just keep doing what they want you too and keep smiling and let everyone know how lucky they are not to have to deal with a quarter of what we all go through!!! Guest guest
Ok Annie here it is in short form, I suffer from Spinal Stenosis, Fibromyalgia, DDD and a couple of others but every time I seem to go the doc list continues to grow! Before my skull slipped I had 3 cervical surgeries for Laminectomy, discectomy, and to do what they do for the canal because it was down to a 4% opening causing excruciating Migraines that I continued to go to work with everyday. Oh and I had c2,c3 fused. The other surgeries were for S1 and up to L something for four disks removed and fused plated and roded. About a month after surgery # 4 I started to experience total numbness in my legs and arms and was put on steroids for bells palsy. Three more weeks passed and finally ordered them to do an MRI/contrast and waited two more weeks to get a phone call to be at the hospital the next day. My skull actually slipped of the plate at C0 and the axis and kinked my Brain Stem and walked around that way for almost 12 weeks, if I'm getting it right and was told 7 days to get it back in place had the surgery and spent 16 weeks in the squirrel cage I received my Saint Hood?? did you see my pictures? The one with the rods and hardware on the cervical is it. I've had 10 surgeries in 23 months am 49 years old and just keep on plugging away and I'm going fishing today. Mark from Boston there some more pics and stories here at the blog. markfrmboston ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
Are you & family of a certain denomination? I have a friend who is a Pastor and does help me. I think anytime your care givers can voice there feelings and concerns to others that care, it is a benefit. Remember that no matter what life hands us, we are better off than some!! I know it's hard to see through pain at times, but if we don't try it will drag us further down? You are blessed with a family around you!! I wish I had that. I am divorced and only see my 13yr old daughter every five weeks. Ex gets 5 and then I get 5 weeks. I don't get her back for 3 more weeks. Surgery yesterday was not pleasant especially coming home to an empty house! Thank God my 19yr old daughter can be there at times! Be tough cause we really only have 2 options. Give up or see our troubles as a test of our will. The biggest battles ever fought are within US? Please tell the story if you don't mind. Thanks and hoping your pain is livable today. Guest guest
Good words Bill. Lately, I have been depressed waking up to pain, going to bed with pain. I do have a caring husband but he is suffering from panic attacks daily. Both of us aren't working, so my fears of no money, no health, step in. I believe in God, but am finding this trial the hardest thing I have ever gone through. I am grateful to boards because right now I have no social life. Yes, I appreciate what I have but lately I'd give up my home, move back to cold weather or wherever, live in a shack, if I knew my husband and I would be healthy again. Just venting. Thanks for your encouragement though. I'll get past this. > > > It's amazing at the time spent in the hospital these > > days but after 10 > > surgeries I've found I'm more comfortable at home as > > long as I'm able to get > > around and use the facilities without any problems > > that's half the battle!! > > When my skull slipped off my spine and I had to do 7 > > days in traction before > > they could do the operation and another 7 days there > > it was a tough 2 weeks > > but when I got home and was able to do my daily > > routine except for the > > visiting nurse everyday to clean the pins in the > > halo and to make sure it was tight > > I wonder out after about a week on the couch and did > > short walks I got some > > strange looks walking around with the cage on for 16 > > weeks but walking and > > going for a ride is what keeps your sanity. Guest guest
Venting can be a good thing!! It is one thing my ex could never do? It all built up until she went over the edge. Assaulted our oldest, hit her and choked her, left a bruise on her neck!! I fear my youngest spending time with her mother. I have to believe that she loves our youngest and that will not allow her to hurt her. Less than a year and she can decide to live with me. She wants away from her mom! How sad is that? But that is one of my tests, your tests belong to you. Beat the odds and you will be stronger for the experience! --- barbarac102 <barbarac102@...> wrote: > Good words Bill. Guest guest
Yes, stronger, wiser and even more compassionate. Not a bad combibation, huh? Sorry about your ex and children. That is awful for sure. Guest guest
Mark, Wow!!!! What an amazing horrific trip you have had. Good that you are not letting it ruin your quality of life. I guess I was wondering how does your skull " slip " from your spine. I did go to your blog and had been there before and posted comments.
