Guest guest
I was a member and dont know what happened but it seems I got booted from the group somehow. anyway, I have sciatica which I have had for about 8 years now. Getting steadily worse all the time and finally saw an ortho for 1 1/2 yrs then transferred to pain management(almost 2 years)...course I still have no answer for what is causing it. Now had a bad flare- couldnt walk for 6 weeks and still have good days and bad days and it is 3 months later. I am scheduled for an epidural. I have had 3 sets of xrays, 3 mris, 2 emgs, ssep, cat scan, 2 bone scans. all normal. Can anyone else here with sciatica that has a non disc related sciatica or a normal mri but has been diagnosed another way? I am also interested in hearing what treatments people had and what meds helped the most etc. I have gone from working out every day and doing tons of sports to basically living on the couch. I am trying to walk and I get a spike in pain. I try to workout with light weights, spike in pain. Try doing abs, spike in pain. But I think the worse thing for me is not having an actual cause. plus it gets difficult....friends and family are already tired of hearing about it, you know? Hi , demand a myelogram with CT scan. That is the only test that showed where my pain was coming from. All of the other tests were negative. Guest guest
Thanks for the response! The myelogram is different than a straight ct scan, right? I will do that, thank you! Guest guest
Candace, do you mind sharing what your problem was? I am being told by my PT that it seems very much like a disc to her but if my discs all look great on my mri...I have no idea what else could be causing it. The insurance company is going to really start fighting these tests I think if they dont order something actually shows results! JP > Hi , demand a myelogram with CT scan. Guest guest
Hi : Piriformis syndrome is a sciatica that has a non disc related problem Please visit : http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/sma/sma_piriform_sma.htm Regards > > I was a member and dont know what happened but it seems I got booted > from the group somehow. > anyway, I have sciatica which I have had for about 8 years now. > Getting steadily worse all the time and finally saw an ortho for 1 1/2 > yrs then transferred to pain management(almost 2 years)...course I > still have no answer for what is causing it. Guest guest
Hi , I was in a car accident in April. My pain is in my right groin, left knee and both feet. I don't have much back pain at all. I went to the ER after the accident and x-rays were taken, showing nothing. I went to my family doctor, and he sent me for therapy and referred me to an orthopedist, who wanted to replace my knee! I kept telling him it's not arthritis pain, it's a shooting, burning pain, but he didn't listen. The 16 weeks of therapy actually made me worse. I went to a pain mgmt. doctor and he thought the pain was coming from my back, but didn't want to do further testing. So I went to a neurosurgeon, had an MRI on my back and nerve conductivity study. The MRI showed " some " narrowing, but nothing else. The nerve test was inconclusive because I retain fluid in my ankles. He finally sent me for a myelogram and CT scan. Presto! I have severe disk space narrowing, hypertrophy and calcification of soft tissue at L3-L4, causing bony impingement on the right nerve. I have bulging with moderate stenosis at L3-L4. There was bulging at L4-L5. There is severe disk space narrowing at L5-S1 with degenerative disk disease. At this point, L3 has collapsed on L4. L4 has shifted 45 degrees to the right. My neurosurgeon recommended PLI fusion, but I opted not to have that terribly serious surgery at this time. So, I'm back with the pain mgmt. doctor and considering non-steroidal injections. My auto insurance company stopped paying the bills 90 days ago. Recently, they've paid everything up to date, but won't pay any more until I see THEIR doctor. I'm confused. Why should I not be allowed to seek a definitive diagnosis before I decide on treatment? I hired an attorney to explain that right of mine to them.
