Guest guest
Hi, I am wondering if this has happened to anyone else who has had back surgery. My husband has had three back surgerys. During his second one a doctor did notice a small amount of muscle loss that was about six years ago. His last surgery was about four years ago. We have not really noticed this till the last few months so we measured his leg. It is almost three inches smaller above the knee than the other leg. None of the doctors want to look at him because another dr in another state did his surgery.. We are wondering is this a common thing with back trouble? Thanks so much
Guest guest
I am so sorry this happened to your husband. I do not know if what you asked is common BUT I do know that just the other day I was reading where if one's leg is shorter then the other it can cause a lot of spinal pain/nerve pain. I think the web sites were regarding spinal pain. I also think that a shoe wedge insert was prescribed to even out the leg length. Guest guest
Muscle weakness is common, I would suppose atrophy would result eventually. Right now, just starting into Physical Therapy at six months post 3 level fusion, we are really only working on my leg strength because of all the strength I have lost.
