Guest guest
can anyone recommend a group, book or training information on working out with lower back problems? I use to compete in body building, i keep trying to work out but now am afraid that I might hurt myself further if I do something wrong. I have stopped any weight baring exercise on spine but i would love a forum to discuss this or a book to read! thanks, JP
Guest guest
JP- I spent a lot of time looking around for a place to work out. I used to teach aerobics and now cannot do any impact exercise (2 level cervical discectomy and fusion and syringomyelia.) I finally found a little place locally called Slim and Tone that has several personal trainers on staff and all the other girls are college girls working on degrees in the health field (PT, Nutrition etc.) They have recumbent bikes and elliptical machines for non impact cardio. Then they have a circuit of hydrolic machines mixed with stations in between for strength and tone. My docotrs are all okay with what I'm doing. The trainer I worked with helped me adjust the toning stations to my personal limitations, and I skip the hydrolic machines that hurt. I really haven't lost weight, but my clothes fit better. The best thing is that I am feeling stronger, and healthier. It's only been 2 months, so I can't expect miracles after not working out for 3 years, but I really feel like I'm back on track. I'm still working on the exercise helping with the pain, but at least it's not making it worse! Best of all, my daughter (15) was able to join for only $10 more, and now I have a workout buddy! Good Luck! cd > > can anyone recommend a group, book or training information on working > out with lower back problems?
