Strange tho that just the calf & foot is involved....and not further up the leg. But.....that just means that (IMO) it hasn't affected the whole nerve just yet....which means don't wait on this Joe!!!!! >I'll be totally honest, if I'm told that I have to have a 3rd surgery, >I don't think that I can handle it mentally or physically. You know very well that you can't leave nerves compressed...unless you like to be in wheelchairs! Why don't you see about getting an MRI at the very least.....it may be a whole lot less than what we think....and your getting worried about nothing! You KNOW that we will be here for you......to get you thru whatever happens to come up! THe MRI will at least let you know what is going on. But.....that just means that (IMO) > it hasn't affected the whole nerve just yet....which means don't wait on > this Joe!!!!! Well, it really hurts most when I get up after sleeping (must be all that physical activity with I'm dreaming about ) The pain did go all the way up to my butt. Felt like someone nailed a rope to my butt cheek and it went down to my feet. I saw it as a function of how the sciatic nerve was stretched (when sitting) vs. not stretched (when lying down), but my chiro said it was mainly a function of weight bearing. I've started an intense diet, but I can't drop half a ton in a few days. My chiro has helped the pain with stretching and providing heat/ice instructions. I'm scheduled for accupuncture this coming Tuesday. This guy is in the same practice with the cool neurosurgeon and the GP back doctor I worship. I've fed this info to them and they are waiting for me when I get there. As soon as I know something, you'll know. > >I'll be totally honest, if I'm told that I have to have a 3rd surgery, > >I don't think that I can handle it mentally or physically. You GOTTA know Joe.....you can't go on like this. > {{{{HUGS}}}} Well, I don't think that I can mentally or physically take another surgery. Just before I had my 2nd surgery (ACDF), I had an MRI. There were no other problems noted except for a small herniation in my T1. I don't think they did the sciatic. I'll discuss it with superDoc next week. If there's a way to avoid surgery, I want to. I'll be honest besides being afraid to be cut on again, I've missed so much work that missing another few weeks might cost me my position. I also have no-one to help me the way I would need help. Should I lose my job, I have no health insurance. Without a plan, my medication alone would deplete my savings within 5 years. And the chance of getting hired by a company when I've had 2 surgeries, not so good, I think. But I'm thinking too much ahead now, I've been so pessimistic since my dad died and I almost died as well. I'll cheer up as soon as sends me a picture. joe
Guest guest
>Send me a picture. I'm serious.>> ROFL Ohhh Joe! You crack me up! Actually, I did try! But, I can't seem to get this new puter to recognize the pics on the floppy! I don't have the energy to fight with it this evening either...I'm sorry You'll have to use your imagination > > >I'm beginning to see that, but he has done so much for my midback (Thorasic) >after the ACDF. A lot of the pain in my shouldblades is gone.>> Oh and I truly believe that they can indeed help alot of situations! But I also think that there are just some things that they can't or shouldn't try to fix Well, it really hurts most when I get up after sleeping (must be all that >physical activity with I'm dreaming about ) The pain did go >all the way up to my butt.>> Now, it is interesting to me that you should describe the pain as traveling UP.....rather than down.....my pain always starts at my spine area & travels downwards towards my toes. Hmmmmm And I agree.....it probably IS all 's fault <G> > Felt like someone nailed a rope to my >butt cheek and it went down to my feet. > >I saw it as a function of how the sciatic nerve was stretched (when sitting) >vs. not stretched (when lying down), but my chiro said it was mainly >a function of weight bearing. >> Now see....I agree with your idea of why it hurts! LOL When my nerve was compressed at L5 it did indeed hurt like hell to set.....laying down on my stomach, and again, with these boobs, even that was not easy, but that was THE only position that allowed me to sleep with the least amount of pain. I really think that your right Joe.....you've got that compressed nerve and as you set, it does stretch it even further and causes pain. > I've started an intense diet, but I can't >drop half a ton in a few days. My chiro has helped the pain with >stretching and providing heat/ice instructions.>>> Blech.....diet eh? I'll wish you luck with that Joe! I too am overweight and would probably do better to drop some weight. Have you found the heat/ice to help get rid of the inflammation? I don't mind the hear, but BRRRRRRR I HATE the cold part!!! LOL >I'm scheduled for accupuncture this coming Tuesday. This guy is >in the same practice with the cool neurosurgeon and the GP back doctor >I worship. I've fed this info to them and they are waiting for me when >I get there. As soon as I know something, you'll know.>> Ohhh COOL! I am jealous! I've looked into it as it is offered on our insurance plan. I want to get these darned screws out first. I'm going to have the Neuro check on my S2 & L3 when he goes in there.....so if those need any work....he can do it then...I don't want to be opened back up for quite a while! LOL >Well, I don't think that I can mentally or physically take another surgery.>> Yea well, what you *think* you can handle....and what you end up handling may be 2 diff things And I mean that in a good way! Life has its way of throwing us all kinds of curves.....therefore, we have to swerve! >Just >before I had my 2nd surgery (ACDF), I had an MRI. If there's a way to >avoid >surgery, I want to.>> You betcha! We ALL want to avoid surgery, and want you to as well. But...we also don't want you to go around being in pain.....or have a nerve compressed that may lead to permanent nerve damage. >I'll be honest besides being afraid to be cut on again, I've missed so much >work >that missing another few weeks might cost me my position. I also have >no-one >to help me the way I would need help. Should I lose my job, I have no >health >insurance. Without a plan, my medication alone would deplete my savings >within 5 years. And the chance of getting hired by a company when I've had >2 surgeries, not so good, I think.>> WHOA!!!!! Back that up Jack...oh wait, this is Joe right? LOL Your thinking way too far ahead Joe!!! No need to do that to yourself. You have to take your life one day at a time. Heck, all of us do. We don't have much of a choice. Try to live for today Joe....tomorrow comes too quickly the way it is >But I'm thinking too much ahead now, I've been so pessimistic since my dad >died >and I almost died as well.>>> Sigh.....this is a tough one. Tho I have both of my parents, I was right there with my hubby when he lost his Mom to an inoperable brain tumor. It's been almost 2 years and I can honestly say that I don't think he is thru grieving yet. That is such a personal thing. It may take one person 10 years while another one makes their peace in 2. What do you think happens to you when you die Joe? I can tell you that I am a HUGE fan. He has made me rethink my entire thoughts on what happens to you after you pass on from this physical life. I even tape this guy every single day! LOL Some may call him a fake....let them. I've watched him for years and I have no doubt that this man connects to folks that have passed on. Here's a story or two for you. My hubby was probably more of a non believer than most. I made him watch one of the 's that I had taped and it showed a woman that had lost her hubby. They had a small girl and she had taken her to a beach and as they walked along the beach, they came across a feather. As the little girl bent to pick it up, Mom told her that it was a message from her Dad. told the mom about this whole incident, without her giving any hints etc. Well, we went to Ft. to get married. Got checked into the motel room and as we tossed the one suitcase on top of the shelf......a feather floated down. Now.....what are the chances? The next day, we went to The Waffle House to eat breakfast. As we were walking in the door, I stopped & looked down and what do you know......yet another feather! We both know that his Mom is still keeping an eye on us....even if she can't be with us physically. That does give hubby some comfort. Story #2 <G> Hubby purchased a miniature bell of sorts and had put it on his dresser about a month or so ago. He was on *The Throne* ~rolls my eyes~ and NO ONE else was home but him. All of the sudden, this bell started going off all by itself! We do have cats that crawl up there on occasion, so he jumped up off of The Throne to check it out....and there was no cats. We've no doubt that is was Mom saying Hi. What I am trying to tell you Joe is to be on the lookout for your Dad to be saying Hi to you in odd ways. Your going to have to have an open mind, but I have no doubt that it will happen eventually. Try not to worry about your Dad.....hell, he's probably having a much better time than you think he is {{{{{{HUGS}}}}} >I'll cheer up as soon as sends me a picture.>> ROFL Ohhh man...NO pressure there right Joe??????????? I have them on the disc.....as soon as I can get this stupid Windows XP to work....they will be in your mailbox!!!! Guest guest
This is going to sound weird but if it helps with any of the guys out there then it has done some good. About 8 years ago I had issues with my sciatic nerve to the point that I could not get out of bed or walk at all. The cure for me at the time? Real dumb sounding but I stopped carrying my wallet in my back pocket and moved it to a front pocket. It seems that the wallet would pinch the nerve when seated for any amount of time. Just moving the wallet for me cured the issue. Hope it helps some people find less pain. That was definitely the most excruciating pain I have ever gone through...including my recent ACDF problems. My wallet is about 1/4 of an inch. I keep a DL and a credit card and my health insurance card in it. Cash is in my front pocket. Oh, I do keep 3 dozen condoms in it in case I run into and . Or if I just want to drop water balloons off the top of a tall building. joe

No big loss to you guys as I am a newby to the whole neck issue but very disappointing that I try to post something useful that I have learned to ease pain and it is turned into crap like this. There are message groups available for jokes if that is the medicine that best cures your ills. I had thought that this was a group to assist those in pain with Spinal Disorders. Hardly a laughing matter for any of us that have it. I know Joe, if we don't laugh the we die but when a new person comes on here looking for intelligent information about the problems facing them they are not here to hear about your condom situation or if you are swapping pictures with someone on board....I think they have other groups for those topics as well. I am prepared to be flamed for this but must say it is disappointing to have to weed through messages in this group to get the useful information out. Just my 2 cents worth. Guest guest
Dear Janice, Yes I am here to ask serious questions about spinal problems.... I just found out that I have this and I'm terrified. If someone should think this is one big joke. They should leave the group and start their own sick group. We are here to share and comfort one another. I do not know if I'm going to live or be paralyzed from the neck down. So let us be kind. So Janice I'm with you. amy > > Oh dear...I don't want to add to the mix...and I really do enjoy a good joke..who doesn't? But when messages are really directed between two people and they are way off the subject....I feel they should be personally emailed. Regardless of the content. > Jan
Guest guest
Amy, No one ever made a joke about this condition they were dealing with their illness the best they know how. To share and comfort doesn't mean to feel sorry for oneself. None of us know whether we are going to live or be paralyzed. What exactly does your MRI report say? In order to get answers or support people (not you by any means) must post not just lurk around. Heck I was posting with one arm not to long ago as I was unable to use right arm from nerve compression. I had to lift right arm with left arm to use right hand fingers whenever possible. The morphine injection and pills really was a trip, motrin helped the best though. If I could post so could most lurkers. The usual people posting weren't going to reiterate every 5 minutes their aching condition. Everytime someone posted there medical condition it got serious in here. Not once was anyone made fun of for their medical condition rather they were embraced and given support or personal advice from their own experiences. See thats what makes this a great place sharing. I just want to say one very important thing I learned the hard way in my life. No matter what your circumstances in life you have a choice to be happy or miserable. Try some Chicken Soup for the Soul Books they're great. -Nick > > Dear Janice, > Yes I am here to ask serious questions about spinal problems.... > I just found out that I have this and I'm terrified. Guest guest
, I can tell you'll be disappointed, but I can't flame you for your opinion. I have offered people quite a good bit of information on the 2 surgeries I've had. We do joke around with each other. I'm glad you're not quitting the newsgroup, that give me the chance to drop to my knees and beg you to stay. And with that, I'm dropping this group. Good luck to everyone having surgery or recovering. For those still on this list who give a crap, I'll know my results and if I'll need surgery # 3 tomorrow. joe > I had thought that this was a > group to assist those in pain with Spinal Disorders.
