Guest guest
Dear Odie Take him to the eye doctor and get an MRI is he having any double vision??? " odie.robb " <odie38@...> wrote: I don't know if this is the right board to post this to, but I'm hoping someone can help or point me in the right direction. I'll try to make this as brief as possible. In January of this year, my husband developed a severe headache and a stiff neck. He was admitted to the hospital with dehydration and a low blood pressure and it was loosely determined that he probably had viral meningitis. Over a 24 hour period, he was given 7 QUARTS of fluid. After about 2 or 3 weeks, he started feeling a little better. The symptoms came back and he was admitted again for testing. He's had some EKG's, a few MRI's and a spinal tap. All came back normal. Since then, he has had the recurring headaches and a constant stiff neck (however, he can touch his chin to his chest). He has been out of work for 2 weeks now with dizziness and the stiff neck along with a headache. He has a doctor's appointment in a few weeks (to see a neurologist), but in the meantime does anyone have any experience in this or know someone who has or is going through it? This is very frustrating for him and our family. We have 3 small children (well, one is 11) and I have to pick up the slack and do everything since he is usually incapacitated. Any help is appreciated! Thanks! odie --------------------------------- Access over 1 million songs - Music Unlimited.
Guest guest
He has had several MRI's that came out normal as well as an EKG (or EEG or whatever it's called!) He is not having any double vision or even blurry vision. Thank you for your reply! odie > I don't know if this is the right board to post this to, but I'm > hoping someone can help or point me in the right direction. > > I'll try to make this as brief as possible. Guest guest
Hi, this is Terri B. I have had viral meningitis 5 times, 3 times within 6 months. I have gone through the frustrations that your husband is going through. The last time I had meningitis was in 1998 and I have had near constant headaches since then. Not all are "bad" headaches but rarely does a day go by that I don't have a headache of some type. Also have periods of the dizziness. You HAVE to be an advocate for yourself when it comes to this and the drs. I have had my drs. tell me that "there are no after effects of meningitis" which we all know is not the truth. In my case, I was diagnosed with Mollaret's Meningitis, a syndrome (which means they don't know what causes it). The think I find very frustrating is that I will tell a dr. that I have Mollaret's and they get a blank look (it is VERY rare). I'm not upset that they don't know anything about the syndrome as it is rare BUT in the next breath they will say "this or this is not caused by the Mollaret's" Ummmm...excuse me...you just said you don't know anything about the disease but yet you know that what is happening to me is not caused by it? I finally met and have talked with one other person who has this and in comparing, we have found we both have the same things going on. Doesn't take being a rocket scientist to figure out it's probably because of the mulitple bouts of meningitis. Doctors seem to think that when you get over the viral meningitis, you are done but that is not the case. If you would like to speak/write to me, please email me at qultmkr@..., I'd be glad to talk with you or your husband. I had to travel quite aways to find a dr who had treated this but at least it gave me a firm diagnosis. Take care. Terri B Access over 1 million songs - Music Unlimited. Guest guest
Odie, I just had meningitis back in August. Within two weeks I was better. But since then, I've dealt with a weird kind of migraine and stiff neck to go with it. I talked to my doctor today and he is sending me to a neurologist and put me on nortriptyline until I see the neurologist. He said that medication is often used with migraines and I have other conditions that will benefit from taking it. I'll let you know how it works. I do know there is a syndrome that affects some people after meningitis...I found this out while I had meningitis and was researching it, but usually people who have the syndrome have multiple bouts of meningitis which is detectable with spinal taps. Hopefully his neurologist can find something. Guest guest
Dear Bubbles, Just your name makes me smile ; ) I don't go by my given name either. I was adopted by a Cherokee shaman a few years back. Early Indian names are given based on deeds done or a challenge to do something different in your life. I was given the name Willow Softly Blowing. I was told that I had proved myself strong, but now it was time to learn to be 'willow' and bend and it was hoped that my spirit would always be dancing in the world. My family hates it that so many people know me as Willow instead of Debbie, but the name I was given has so many spiritual lessons in it - things that I need to be reminded of. Your name will always give me a smile ; ) Welcome! Willow --- " D. Gilbertson " <jennd@...> wrote: > Odie, > > I just had meningitis back in August. Within two > weeks I was better.
