I'm a post surgical patient - Dec 30th 2002 --- was doing great for 8 months

- then started getting tingling, numb feet periodically... Never had that

before -- just a " clenching " stop me in my tracks pain deep in the posterior

thigh

prior to surgery and HIP pain. Back didn't even hurt. Suffered after 2

failed epidurals and got to where I could not even walk because of the thigh

pain. Was dx'd in September - he didn't want to operate on bulging disks for

pain

for 6 months. My GP interceded (also pesonal friend) and told him I was no

wimp - if I was hurting that bad I really was..

He did a foraminectomy, diskectomy - no fusion just " clean up of the huge

bone masses from L1-clear to S1. I also have DJD of the rt hip - due to bone

spurs and some arthrosis. Never would have got better with rest and therapy

after he saw what was in there...that he took out (the osteophytes)

Now with this new stuff - I kinda ignored it till November when we had to

drive from TX to PA for my Mother-in-laws funeral. OK till the trip home when

the HIP

Anyhow - sorry for rambling --- took a pain pill <sigh>.. When I had a

really bad thigh " clenching " day in December, I called my GP told him to find my

another orthopedist that would listen to me.

Had MRI last Monday ---- 1mm bulges on l1-l2, l2-l3,

l3-l4 is clear clean.

l4-l5 has 2 mm broad based epidural defect effacing the ventral epidural fat

and narowing the inner zonal fat of the neural exit foramina 20% on both

sides. Facet joint space is noticed bilaterally

l5-s1 has 1 mm broad based epidural defect minimally effacing the ventral

epidural fat

but not impinging.

EMG on the 30th..

demonstrates a very mild, early dymelenating sensory motor peripheral

neuropathy more distal than proximal and worse on the left. Finds NO reason for

the

posterior thigh pain = no evidence of radiculopathy or stenosis...

That testing Doc asked if I was diabetic - NO, alcoholic - NO rarely have a

glass of wine, b12 deficient - NO, hypothyroid - NO

help --- don't have another appt till Jan 20th..

any ideas what I'm facing here?

Thanks so much and Happy New Year to all

Dee
