If a discography is anything like a discogram which is what I had back in

February, it is the most painful thing I have ever gone through including my

daily pain. If they are the same thing then I will be glad to explain the

procedure to you.

Good Luck.

I saw my doctor this past friday and he told me that I have to get a

discography. Has anyone had one of these tests? I've been told that

it's one of the most painful tests there are but my doctor made it

seems like it's nothing, just like getting an epidural. I was

wondering if maybe there is more than one kind of this test out there.

A discogram is not a test I will be taking again...it was quite painful...and

the doc also told me it was " a little uncomfortable "

Everyone is different when it comes to pain.. I personally have had 3 discograms

over the past 3 years. They are a little uncomfortable but for the most part it

will all depend on how the doctor performs the proceedure. Mine werent very

painful at all. when they inject the die, you will feel extreme pressure in the

back as it seems like it is trying to push your vertabre apart. The worst thing

that I felt was after the fact! I had a very sharp pain in my groin area

afterwards but it wasnt anything that you cant deal with. Being relaxed on the

table is the key! If your muscles are tense, it can be very painful! So my

advice to you is to relax! Its not too bad!

Can they knock you out during the procedure? I know, when I got the three

Nerve Blocks, but I couldn't due to mild sleep apnea. But, took all my meds,

the other Docs said I could take for panic and pain.

Still upset with my insurance company and paying bills! Drives me crazy!

No...because you have to be alert and aware of what is going on and what you are

feeling. The docs want to know where it hurts. And trust me...I think everyone

on the surgical floor knew when he hit that bacd disc.

I am not going to discuss the pain issue, as I have never had one, nor do I

intend to unless it is absolutely essential.

You may want to read up on it before deciding. I read up on it and realized

that there is quite a bit of controversy on whether the results of the test,

whether positive or negative are helpful. SO you may want to discuss this with

your doctor to see if IN YOUR PARTICULAR CASE the results are going to be that

conclusive and helpful.

I think that some surgeons will not do a surgery unless the disogram confirms

the painful disc, and in that case the patient has no choice if they want the

surgery

I had to have one before my insurance (W/C) would

approve the surgery. All I can say about it is

OUCH!!!!!!. The nurse was kind of nice and let me

squeeze her fingers as they injected the dye into my

disc (she has since retired to to severe arthritis in

the fingers, HA). But when all was said and done, it

was a very painful test, one that I would never like

to have again. Good luck.

Tony, who is your surgeon, and where is he?

Do you know if there is a list somewhere listing the top fusion surgeions?

Just curious

this is a good resource to do some research on lumbar and spinal issues. Workers

comp is not a fun thing to deal with! Im right there with ya! I have been

dealing with them for 4 years now on the same injury. Workers comp doctors dont

care about your pain or lifestyle changes.. they just care about the system and

saving it as much money as possible. Luckily, my surgeon is ranked in the top 10

in the united states when it comes to lumbar fusion. He does about 2000 per year

on top of all of the other things he does, so workers comp doesnt really give me

any grief when it comes to things that my dr. wants to do medically. But I do

have a lawyer just in case it gets ugly! Settlement stage will begin in about 6

months and from what dr. and lawyer are saying, it will be a sizeable amount. So

hopefully things go easily and well for you! The discogram is different for each

individual person! I had a needle stuck into 3 different discs at the same time

when i had mine done and

it honestly didnt hurt very badly. My lack of pain during the proceedure may be

because when they injected the dye into the disc it just ran out the other side

of the disc. I did feel alot of pressure but it didnt kill me. Good luck!

Hopefully your discogram is as pain free as mine was!

my doctor isn't forcing me to get one done, he thinks it would be a sure fire

way to figure out what is wrong with me. none of my doctors can explain why my

injury is getting worse when i'm not doing anything to aggrivate it. i was

diagnosed with siatica and at 19 years old, with the epidurals and pain meds i

should be getting better or atleast have somekind of an improvment but i'm only

getting worse no matter what kind of treatment they try. i'm so tired of hearing

my doctors say " we think " , " let's try this and see how it works " and " i don''t

know " . i want this test to be done...i understand this test is going to hurt a

lot but i want this done so i will know what is wrong with me. i know i have

siatica but there is something else wrong with me and i need to know what it is.

i have a very good pain management doctor and he would stand by my decision if i

didn't want to have one. and besides, i don't have the luxury of having an

insurance company to let me go to

and

from doctors at my whim, mine is workers comp and i can only go to doctors on my

company's payroll.

Tristan Jouvin <tristanjouvin99@...> wrote: So if someone knows themselves

that they are not a faker....then why do the test? I know myself without a doubt

that my pain comes from my L5-S1 region. If a doctor was forcing me to do a

discogram in order to treat me, I would switch doctors, and would switch again

and again until I found one who did not require one. But then, I guess I live in

an area where there are a lot of doctors to see, and have an insurance that

allows me to see a good number of them.

Robison <bigred84022@...> wrote: There is no positive or negative

the test will say at the end of it. Once you have the discogram done there is no

way for any doctor to dispute what is wrong with you or where you pain is. It

just happens to be one of the most painful thngs a person will go through with

back issues.
