Guest guest
funny you ask that - just now I'm getting spinal decompression treatment but after 2 weeks I'm afraid it's just another thing to add to my list of non-successful treatments. I've have chronic lower back pain for 10 years. My MRI report looks fairly normal except a degenerated disc in L5 but the doc says he's seen much worse MRI's and people have less or no pain. I've had about 15 - 17 treatments so far (can't remember exactly right now). My experience: 1. It seems different every time you go. 2. some feel good others felt horrible. 3. it seems to have expanded my pain to the upper back now (YEAH!) 4. no real improvement for me 5. 2400 bucks down the drain (health insurance will most likely not pay a dime - surprise) I'd stil recommend it though since the doc said he has lots of patients that feel improvement. One even after 30 years of chronic pain. This guys used this machine : http://www.1800stoppain.com/drx9000_program.htm might work for you. Guest guest
Hi Kirsten, nice to meet you. It's good to know that the decompression therapy does work and has helped your husband. Would having disk replacement be an option, it is different then a discectomy, isn't it? Whatever you do I wish you well and if you get a chance let us know how you are. My husband had decompression therapy about a year ago (Vax-D) for a pretty severe herniation/disc extrusion at L5/S1. He felt it helped him avoid surgery, in conjuction with physical therapy and some gentle pilates exercises. I had surgery (discectomy) 2 years ago for L5/S1 herniation. I tried epidurals (the first one worked enough to allow me to walk, but the other two didn't help), oral steroids, chiropractic care, exercises, and physical therapy, not to mention pain killers. After 8 months I gave in and had surgery. I got instant relief and was pain free and back to normal life (running, etc.) for two years. Then, whammo! 4 weeks ago I got the same burning pain down the leg. After an MRI we found it was the same disc that had reherniated. Lucky me! I want to avoid surgery but this time around I am even worse. No relief after two epidurals, drugs don't help at all, and I can barely crawl to the bathroom to pee. It's agony. I'm seriously considering the VAX-D therapy, even though it's expensive. Wish me luck. Guest guest
hi, Barbara. i just saw my surgeon (who did my discectomy two years ago) and he said I wouldn't warrant disc replacement at this point. He could easily remove the extruded disc material if I elect to do so, but I'm trying to avoid a second surgery. i have an appt. with the decompression/ VAX-D people on Thursday, so i'll let you know! > > Hi, there.
