Hi everyone -

You might remember me from recently writing about being on different

anti-inflammatories.

Quick background:

I have two herniated discs (L4-L5, L5-S1), degenerative disc disease, slight

scoliosis, disc fragment, sciatica on the right side with nerve pain down to my

foot sometimes, and now inflammation of the joints on my left side. I've been

suffering with the sciatic pain on my right side for about 2 1/2 years now. The

pain on my left side just started about two months ago.

Well I fell the other night onto concrete steps, on accident of course! I was

in a rush and was going down two steps. My heel wound up catching the edge of

the step instead of the full step and by the time I realized my other foot was

already off the ground ready to take my next step. I went straight down into an

awkward sitting position. I landed a little bit on my elbow but the landing was

so hard that it caused my shoulder to jerk upwards which messed up my neck and

shoulder. I landed also on my butt and tailbone, and I think my spine might

have bounced off the corner of the steps also.

I'm doing alright. I'm mainly just very stiff and very sore but do have pains

when I try and walk normal or bend forward. Now keep in mind I was in pain

before this happened too because of the inflammation of my joints on the left

side. This just made that ten times worse.

My question is, should I go for another MRI to make sure I didn't do more

damage? I just had an MRI done not even a month ago so I don't know if my

insurance will cover it so soon.

Thanks!!

Jenn

Jenn , I would give it a couple weeks or months to see if you feel better. I

also fell down some steps at work and suffered from some of the same health

problems as you. what I found out is that my leg collapsed due to the injury to

my back. Jenn the longer you suffer from sciatica pain , which is nerve pain

that more permanent damage will be done to your legs and feet. After I had

surgery I woke up to numbness in my left foot and and buttocks. My doctor told me

that the numbness was always there but that the pain was covering it up. the

longer it took me to have the surgery the worse the numbness became, he also

told me that because it took me a year and a half to correct my back , it is

most likely that if the numbness does no go away with in 2 years then it will be

permanent.Talk with your doctor about what I just said, and let me know what he

has to say,

The sciatic pain on my right side isn't nearly as bad as it once was. I had it

constantly, but then he put me on a nerve blocker and I was able to get back to

a normal life. Now I've weened myself from 75 mg a day to only 10 mg and I'm

almost pain free as far as the nerve pain down my right leg.

Now my main concern is the pain that I've been getting on my left side. It's

more in the joint, kinda the back of the hip I guess on your back-side. But

since my fall I am getting pain now worse than I had.

I did put a call into my doctor, I'm waiting for him to call me back today or

tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about your fall. Im sure that it will start to feel better after a

few days pass. I have had a lumbar fusion L4 L5 S1 is now all one big piece of

titanium with screws, cages, rods and plates. I injured myself in 2002 at work (

workers comp) and finally had surgery approved in 2004. @ years post op.. I am

still in severe pain every single day of my life. My surgeon wants to remove all

hardware because he believes that my body is still trying to reject the

titanium. ( painful hardware syndrome) but workers comp says no.. My lawyer

wants me to settle the claim for a crappy 30, 000 dollars. I told him that I

would not settle for less than 3 times what the doctor was paid to do the surgey

the first time because I am the one living in pain and being restricted in

motion and sleep on a daily basis ( FYI doctor and hospital and anistesiologists

bills totalled 146,238. 45) So needless to say, this is going to be a horrible

battle.. The lawyer ( what a joke) said that

he didnt think that my injury was worth that much, SOOOO I said " YOURE FIRED " .

He didnt like that too well but ya know, Im the one who is in so much pain that

I cant run with or even carry my youngest child, I cant play ball with my oldest

daughters anymore. etc... So hopefully your injury wasnt work related in OHIO

because our workers comp systen worries too much about the scandal with thier

rare coin collection that they do the injured workers of the state. Good luck

and I wish you all the best. And for those of you who have a work related back

injury, lets join together to stop the workers compensation division of our

state governments from crapping on the injured workers! It happens every day and

isnt going to stopp unless we take a stand and fight for our rights as citizens

of this country. If anyone reading this is in Ohio. Join me and lets make an

example out of our workers comp system. Its time to stop taking what they want

to give us financially, its time to

stop allowing an overpaid highschool graduate, sitting in an office, from

having the power to determine if we get the medical attention that we need to

live as pain free as possible. Thanks and good luck! Tony in Ohio

Hi Jenn sorry to hear you fell, that hurts the most never knowing

what you could have done to yourself. I'd suggest you contact your

regular dr and talk to him. I would think he'd tell you to wait a

few days see if the pain and stiffness wears off more. But I doubt

your insurance would cover another one so close, they may I just am

not sure. But your dr's office should know all that. So I'd contact

him if you are worried you hurt yourself more. I can't tell you how

many times my bad foot has put me on the ground, usually because I

thought it was somewhere it wasn't. But most of the time I was sore

for a few days but any new pains I had went away after several days

of resting. Still I'd say talk to your dr and see what he says would

be your best bet. Hope this helps. Sharon Group Owner

Hey Sharon -

I'm feeling slightly better today actually as far as the stiffness and

tightness in my loer back. However, I am feeling the joint pain not only on the

left side but on the right side as well. I'm waiting for my doctor's office to

call me back hopefully today. My doctor was in surgery yesterday, and I don't

think he's in the office till late today. And the best part is that I have my

Aunt's wedding to go to TOMORROW!!

Thanks for the advise!!

Hi Jenn, I hope you are doing better from your fall. I hope that nothing broke.

I bet you are really sore. I fell down my steps last Aug. and broke my ankle. I

was sore for days.

Thankfully nothing is broke as far as ankles or wrists. Not too sure of how my

back is doing though. =(

Jenie, Just take it easy for a couple of days and try not to over do it. I don't

know why i said ankle. I broke my foot near the top. I had a stroke awhile back

and sometimes my brain does not function well. I am getting concerned that I may

have had another mini stroke. Cause the last few days. I will think something

and that is NOT what I speak. Like this morning I told my daughter as she

pointed out that it sure didn't seem like monday. I was thinking that it did not

seem like Friday. She says she is noticing that I am doing things like I did

when I had my other stroke.

I'm definetly trying to take it as easy as possible, but I do have my Aunt's

wedding tomorrow and it's an all day thing so that's going to be stressful on my

back. I'm just going to load up on the advil for the day.

Oh no! I do that too sometimes with slip-ups in words, but if you're

concerned I would call your doctor. Aren't there tests to see if you did have a

stroke?
