Guest guest Posted September 13, 2003 Report Share Posted September 13, 2003 I had a spinal fusion (L4-5) on 6/25/03. I have the cages in there. The Dr. went through my front. I have no plates or screws, and he did not give me any medication or back brace. My question is that how long does it take for the pain and back muscle stiffness to go away. I felt pretty good for about 2 weeks, but my pre-surgery (muscle)pains have returned. The Dr. said it could take about 6 months or till the fusion takes before the symtoms start to go away. As far as your question I heard the fisrt 8 weeks are the hardest and then once you start physical therapy around week 9 you start to feel better. In the meantime you should have had some prescriptions prescribed for the pain.If your doctor didn't prescribe any medications and didn't mention phyiscal therapy I would contact a different surgeon and get a second opinion. Sometimes they have or know of some clintics that you mit qualfie for. Their are programs out their that are study programs. That is what I am waiting for know. I hope this will help you. God Bless! Just curious, my Dr.'s will have absolutely no part of treating me again, I'm overweight but quite smoking this time, one Dr. even wants me to have Grastric Bypass to be treated but I cannot afford that my ins. will not cover that kind of surgery. Question, are you restricted by what doctors you can choose from due to insurance?
