Test of new drug to fight Hepatitis C recurrence

The Mayo Clinic Transplant Center is studying whether Hepatitis C Immune Globulin (Human), an investigational drug candidate known as Civacir, prevents the recurrence of hepatitis C-related liver disease in liver transplant patients. Mayo Clinic sites in Arizona, Florida and Minnesota are looking for adults to participate in this study. Eligible participants must have hepatitis C and need a liver transplant. Hepatitis B drug blocks HIV treatment

Entecavir, a widely used drug to treat hepatitis B liver infections, quickly increases resistance to AIDS treatments in HIV-infected patients, US researchers warned Wednesday. The findings have "serious implications" for the more than four million people worldwide believed to be infected with both viral illnesses but who need to treat their hepatitis B and are not yet on anti-HIV drugs.

Radioembolization is considered a safe and effective treatment for patients with liver tumors that cannot be surgically removed and can be safely applied to a wider group of patients, according to the results of the largest-ever study of patients treated. The study and recommendations by an international consensus panel were presented at the 18th Annual International Congress on Anti Cancer Treatment (ICACT) in Paris, France.

L.A. Food Workers to get Hepatitis A Shot

Following a series of outbreaks of the disease recently, health officials have made it mandatory for all food service workers in eateries across Los Angeles to get vaccinated for hepatitis A. Officials at the Los Angeles County planned to get a detail estimate of costs and benefits of requiring vaccination of more than 100,000 workers at 25,000 eateries, 300 catering companies and 270 wholesale producers.

British Comedian Dies from Hepatitis A Infection

British actor Inman, best known for his role as the flamboyant Mr. Humphries on the long-running BBC comedy "Are You Being Served?", has died in London aged 71, his spokesman said. The actor died in hospital and had been suffering from a Hepatitis A infection for some time.
