On the Mend from Hepatitis C, Escovedo Joins Producer Cale to Record "The Boxing Mirror" Set For Spring Release Escovedo, the consummate musician/storyteller who No Depression named the 90's Artist of the Decade, is in the final stages of completing "The Boxing Mirror," his first studio album since 2000's critically-acclaimed "Man Under The Influence." The new album is being produced by Cale and will be released this Spring on the Back Porch Records/EMI label. "The Boxing Mirror" also marks Escovedo's return to "business as usual" after a health scare in 2003 when he collapsed after a show and was diagnosed with advanced cirrhosis of the liver, a complication of Hepatitis C."The Boxing Mirror" was recorded this past December at The Lair in Los Angeles and is comprised of 11 Escovedo originals. According to the now-healthy Escovedo, "The Boxing Mirror" CD title refers to "the struggle of someone within themselves," with the 11 new songs being at once intensely personal and broadly universal. The musicians who played on the new album are all members of Escovedo's touring band - Mark Andes/bass, background vocals; Matt Fish, cello; Dee Graham/guitars; Munoz/drums; Pulkingham/acoustic and electric guitars, background vocals; Bruce Salmon; keyboards, background vocals; Standefer/cello, and Voelz/violin and background vocals. Guest musicians included Cale/keyboards and guitars, Larry Goetz/bass and guitars, and Otono Lujan/accordion.Rock fans know Escovedo as a writer who can put together songs that echo the Stones and the Stooges, the Velvet Underground and Bob Dylan, the Clash and , the Faces and Patti .
