I think it's probably a bit of a joke Susie.

People send all sorts of weird things through email. Better not to send

them on to others.

| Hi,

| This sounds like something that drivers should know about because I

remember when I used to drive and seen someone driving without head lights

was the first thing to do.

I heard about this in my area in Tennessee. Our local police also had a flyer printed in the newspaper for people to be careful. Hi Margaret, It's not a joke. The gangs have done this in the past. My son was in a gang and is now in prison. He did not kill anyone, thank God, but he did get into some serious trouble. He said that some gangs in larger cities were doing this. Everyone out there should be careful. As you know, I live in Los Angeles. They had this same thing

circulating here a couple few ago and it scared the hell out of

everyone. It was even on the nightly news. They never had anyone

shot or anything...we have enough of that happening every day/night

headlights off or not.

Still, it did get some people riled up here.

Our biggest thing the past year or so has been people coming up and

shooting you while your driving on the freeway. Any freeway. Just for

nothing. This isn't always gang related....these are " normal "

people, Moms, Dads, kids on their way to work in the morning, at

night....people on their way to church. Now THAT'S scary.

Welcome, Jackie--

This is a forum for people who have either had, or are going to have full or partial relpacements of joints in their bodies. Most of the members are knee and hip replacements, but ankle, wrist, elbow and shoulder joints can be replaced too.

Well thanks. I guess I am in the right place. I had just shifted from the

resurfacing hippies group (with the help of a supportive friend) and I thot

he had made a mistake. Like some prison reform activists group?!! No, that

is a bit of a stretch. I just was confounded. Everyday seems wierd

somehow. My first ever surgery or hospital stay. Awful! I really really

wanted to go with all the other hippies to brussels or birmingham and get

resurfaced....I know the food would have been better. However, all I had

was medicare.

My surgery was May 1....returned home after a 4 hour ride in the front

seat.....I should have been put in the back with feet up...I wound up with a

swollen leg for about 10 days. Then awful bruising at the back of

leg....now just really sore to the touch. Am just now beginning to lose my

lurch if I walk without a cane. But since my operated leg was so

compromised for so long prior to surgery am rehabilitating all that along

with effects of surgical procedure. Just went for first out patient PT and

have a LOT of new exercises....I just want to walk on beaches and swim

everyday.

But, No Beach/No Water. Sortof in the wrong place.

One concern....the non operated leg has a patch on top of thigh that acts

like it is asleep....I came out of surgery with that. Actually more than

just a patch...it is most of top of thigh. Feels awful.

Don't really have a question...blundered thru everything on my own the first

few weeks...was too sore to sit at a computer to do much sharing or

questioning or whining.

My pt says too early to kneel or bend as far as keeping up with the

garden.....a month of rain has weeds over taking all the edibles. And I

have not yet attempted driving.

Was beginning to think I would be slouching forever until it got more

comfortable to sit at desk at computer. Isolation was getting a bit much.

It is fascinating to read of everyone's various experiences tho.....and

moods....

Thanks! Jackie

Jackie and all:

My doctor, he is with an HMO, has email through the HMO's website. You all

might check

this out with you doctor, PT person etc. If I have a question I shoot him an

email. He

usually responds that day or next.

As far as the patch thing. Is it numb or tingling? This could be from nerves

in the area

being hurt or cut. I had a knee operation with I was little (11). The front

area of my knee

was numb for 20 years. They had cut the nerves during the operation so I had no

feeling.

Slowly the feelings came back. I would ask your doctor about that. Maybe you

could call

and ask or email like I said before.

for a little help in the garden have someone make a couple of your tools longer/shorter so you can use them standing up. at one time my family folded a cheap tarp so it would fit in the row so i could lay down at one end and weed + scooch until i made it to the end of the row. yah i got a little dirty but being out in the sun was great. a different option is one of the long handled garden weasel or garden claw tools you see at home centers. just make sure you have your cane with you or a stick with a hook so you can pick things up if dropped

I think you are doing very well. I had my right hip replaced on March

20th. Both legs were swollen for several weeks, in fact my right

ankle is only just back to normal. My garden is also full of weeds

and I have just started to work on them. I know how frustrating it is

to not be able to do what you want, hang in there.

Don: Thanks so much for the suggestion. I asked the physician's assistant

when I was checked out at 2 weeks. He said he thot it was some situation

with the back. This side of the numbness by the way is not the operated

side....no cuts. However something obviously happened during surgery.

My new PT suggests that it is nerve damage and does take a long time to

heal. Possibly from being moved in a certain way or something. Sure hope

we are not looking at 20 years in my case!!

It is both numbish and tingling and when moved and/or stretched sortof has

pinchy screechey sensation like a tearing or something. The pt thot that

was actually a good sign.

Like the swelling followed by bruising and having called and talked to a my

doc's nurse...I was just giving it " time " .....however the condition has

really not much changed in these past 5 weeks or so.

How great to have an MD that answers email.

I will check but I rather doubt I can reach my OS in that way. I have no

other doc. Will have another check up later this month and will bring it up

again.

Again, thanks. Jackie
