Guest guest
All I did was ask what proof you have that Maximum Milk Thistle is the best product out there. When someone makes a claim like that I think they should back it up, especially since Milk Thistle is something most of us take and this product is 2 to 4 times more expensive. If you feel that my original comment was rude then I apologize for that. I've seen a lot of rude comments on this board, which is unfortunate. Why would you respond to me in the way that you did if you don't think it's right to do that? Reread my comment to you and then your comment to me and tell me which one you think is rude. Guest guest
Barbara, I have taken Silyphos, which is the same thing as Maxiumum Milk Thistle, for 15 months. Previous to that I was taking standard Silymarin extract. Now I'm back to Silymarin. This is anecdotal evidence, but my health did not improve while on Silyhos. The triple antioxidant study which was mentioned today in another post used silymarin, not silyphos. I'm not aware of any study done that shows this product is more effective for liver protection than silymarin. The product is only one third silybin - the other two thirds is phosphatidylcholine. There are several concerns as I see it. 1) The product contains only one compound of silymarin instead of the full spectrum of the herb. It is quite possible that there are compounds in silymarin that are beneficial, but they have been eliminated from silyphos. 2) Silyphos is only 1/3 silybin. Maximum Milk Thistle is 240mg so you're getting only 80mg of silybin per capsule. I take 900mg per day of Silymarin. Three capsules of Maximum Milk Thistle come to 240mg per day of silybin. 3) There are hundreds of studies of silymarin that prove it's liver protective and anti-cancer qualities. I haven't seen one for silyphos. The only studies are about it's absorption rate being higher. Silymarin extracts definitely work. Silyphos/Maximum Milk Thistle is better absorbed, but does it work better or even as well? Who can say? I spoke with Lloyd at Hepatitis Cfree.com and he sells both silymarin as well as silyphos. He says he has treated hundreds of people for Hepatitis C and uses silymarin, not silyphos. Check out his site and ask him about it. Best to you, Ron > > I thanked you a for your response. I was familiar with the Maxium Milk Thistle site and thought that it had a superior formulation as compared to the typical silymarin extracts out there. However, I was unsure of things, that's why I joined, to ask. Someone else mentioned Liver Essentials which has a similar formula like MMT. Now, Ron is saying that MMT isn't superior. So, I'm wondering where he is getting his info from. This is very important to me, so I'm looking for facts and am willing to spend a little more if it's going to make a difference. I don't think $25-30 is huge to spend a month for your health as opposed to $5-9, if it isn't doing anything but if it is just as good as Ron says, I'd like to know that also. > > Thanks, > Barbara > > > > bambulady54@... wrote: > All you had to say is that you thought there is one better and say check it out on the web site and not come on like gang busters. Guest guest
Thank you Ron for clearing this up, though I have to admit, it takes lot for me absorb all that I'm reading. I just ordered the MMT, but if this is the case I'll order from Lloyd . I know I want to and need to be taking some kind of milk thistle, and was looking for the one that would be most helpful. So, which one are you taking and recommnending? Thanks again. ~Barbara~ronekarp <Rekarp@...> wrote: Barbara,I have taken Silyphos, which is the same thing as Maxiumum Milk Thistle, for 15 months. Guest guest
If you can afford it I would recommend Lloyd's organic product. Both the NOW and Jarrow products are fine, but Lloyd's is organic and it has both the extract and the whole herb. How much does he recommend taking per day? Guest guest
Hi Ron, I got an answer from Lloyd he said 2 capsules 3 x day. The caps would be gone in 10 days that way! There are only 60 caps in a bottle? I was thinking 1 cap 2x a day, if each cap has 200mg Silymarin. > > > > All you had to say is that you thought there is one > better > > > and say check it out on the web site and not come on like gang > > > busters. Guest guest
I do not know. I have seen doses ranging from about 300mg-1200mg a day. I would love to hear more on this from you and others. Thanks. Guest guest
There are lots of different recommendations on how much silymarin to take. The trend I've noticed is higher amounts. I've settled on the 900-1000 mg per day amount. I weigh 160 lbs. If you weigh less you could take less. I don't think 2 capsules a day is enough. If you have the discipline, take it 3 times a day. I'd say 4 caps a day. More wouldn't hurt if you can afford it. If you get regular blood tests you could experiment with different amounts and see if your blood levels improve with higher doses. And also monitor how you feel on different amounts. Ron > > Hi Ron, > I got an answer from Lloyd he said 2 capsules 3 x day. The caps > would be gone in 10 days that way! Guest guest
I am going to take more and see if I notice a difference. I am small, weigh about 113. I've been taking 3 MMT a day.. Someone here or another board said it helped their hip pain. I found that very interesting.
