Someone commented that my ‘claims’ of lowering my viral load one full log were not backed up by test results. I have put them onto this page:

http://www.liverfriend.com/Viral%20Load%20Lowered.htm

This was when I was a relatively naïve patient; presenting with moderate QoL challenges. After 90 days of a natural protocol, my viral load dropped one full log. It has since risen up to 20% of what it used to be prior to a natural HCV specific QoL enhancing protocol. (whew, that’s a politically correct mouthful…) Anyway, just for credibility and perhaps some hope for other ‘naïve’ (untreated) folk…

Well, I knew that was coming but really wasn’t ready for

it…It has evolved since then but to the best of my memory below is what I

did for that 90 days.

An herb formula similar to this:

Milk Thistle [seed] 70-80% Silymarin P.E.

(naturally extracted-no

acetone)……….…450 mg *

CS-4 Cordyceps mushroom, [mycelia]

9% d-Mannitol 0.34%

adenosine…………..375 mg *

Schisandra chinensis [fruit] PE

2% schisandrins..………………..………….300

mg *

Jujube [fruit] (Da Zao) Ziziphus jujuba 4:1....200 mg *

Dandelion [root] PE 25% inulin..…....……...200 mg *

Artichoke [leaf] PE 4% cynarin…….………..200

mg *

Green Tea [leaf] P.E. 60-65% catechins…..….200 mg *

Capillaris [herb] Artemisia capillaris 5:1……..200 mg *

Astragalus [root] PE 16% polysaccharides….200 mg *

Reishi Mushroom PE

6:1…………………….200 mg *

Tumeric [root] PE 95% curcumin…………….200

mg *

Bupleurum [root] 5:1 Bupleurum chinense…...100 mg *

Beta 1,3 Glucans 70% glucans………..……...100

mg *

Ginger [root] PE 20% pungent gingerols

and shogaols………………………………….50

mg *

Licorice [root] PE 12% glycyrrhizen...………..25 mg *

(The herb formula was mixed into a quart or liter bottle and drank

during the day.

ALA 300mg bid (600mg total)

Selenium 200mcg bid (400mcg total)

NAC 500mg tid between meals (1500mg total)

Digestive enzyme with meals as needed

SAMe 200mg bid on an empty stomach (400mg total)

Ester C 3,000 tid on an empty stomach away from iron rich meals

(9,000mg total)

Calcium 1000mg with my main, iron containing meal (reduces the iron

absorption)

1000mg of a mushroom mix (Coriolus, Maitaki, Reishi) tid (3000mg total)

400 IU Dry E bid (800IU total)

An iron free multi vitamin with meals.

The herb formula can vary to TCM diagnosis but by and large everything

else is generic to anyone (with rare exceptions) and backed by clinical trials

as having positive health benefits for the liver.

A lot of pills and bills but it paid off. A group of us got together to

buy these things at wholesale to bring the bills down. Currently I take

everything in powders (except the SAMe) so the pills have lowered also. :) My QoL

has been symptom free since then and I enjoy the best health of my life.

All my life I have had a low body temperature of 96.8 to 97 degrees. I

have since raised it to 98.6. I struggled with trying to lower my cholesterol

to normal range but could not until I started treating my liver. It is now

normal. I used to suffer from about 2 colds per year; I have not had one for

years. My energy level is great. My health continues to improve. I don’t

believe I need another biopsy but will do so “in the name of science”

to see if my liver condition is improved. Regardless, my life has been enriched

from HCV – as strange as that sounds. I enjoy better health and have met

a large community of caring people.

I found an old file with the actual herbal

formula I took back then. So, it was this herbal formula and not the one below

that I used back then.

Schisandra P.E

Capillaris Herb 5-1

Artichoke

P.E.

Astragalus 5-1

Curcumin P. E. 95%

Dandelion P.E.

Eclipta alba 5-1

Ginseng, Eleuth. 5-1

Green Tea 5-1

Jujube Fruit 5-1

Olive Leaf P.E.

18%

Reishi Mushroom 5-1

Scutalleria (Scullcap) 5-1

Bupleurum 5-1

Ginger Root 5-1

Stevia Ext. 90%

Licorice Root, P.E.

How generous of you to share all that information, Jay! There are supplements I just keep seeing over and over...and others that are new to me. I am so glad you feel better now and are here to offer much hope and encouragement.

By the way, thanks for your support, earlier. I realize I was pretty upset and flustered. I feel better now, in part thanks to you.

Take Care,

You are welcome. Even though I have been

involved professionally with health foods all of my adult life, I learned so

much from others online who had researched this before me. Back in ’99 when

I wasn’t working yet due to symptoms, I had tons of time to research. I

kept it up over the past few years. The ingredients are not any ‘discovered’

by me. What I do is make them affordable for myself and others.

Now, even though I take powders, we are

talking about pills. I must emphasize that my diet (food) is my initial

concern. The right foods and water, along with the timing and combinations thereof,

is what sets a foundation. This may sound vague because I am avoiding what is a

very complicated subject.

Leaving aside the food issue, water is

almost 75% of our bodies yet most people take it (any water) for granted. The

first thing I do is make sure that my water is as alkaline as possible and I

drink it in sufficient volume (minimum of an ounce per kilo of body weight;

sipping throughout the day. I good cost/value water is Yosemite with a 7.5 pH value. A more expensive one is Figi water.

The pH is affected by foods and liquids we

ingest. For instance, coffee is very acidic. Processed food is acidic. Sugar is

also. Disease thrives in an acidic environment. Vegetables and fruit are

(mostly) alkaline. Check it out; eat processed foods and see how much mucus

your body presents (nose, eyes, etc.) and then cut to an alkaline food base and

watch those symptoms go away.

I recently started supplementing with a

highly alkaline powder and a pH modifier (Prime pH) from Dr Young (PhD). So,

bottom line; initially the internal environment (the current buzz word phrase

for something we have been considering for 30 years) is where one starts before

supplementation.

I check my pH (saliva and urine) recently

every morning with pH paper to gauge the effectiveness of the new alkaline

products. I don’t think I am a good example anymore because I have

already been eating an alkaline diet. But, I have to try.

Anyway, my point of this email is to

balance out any impression that the supplements that were my entire protocol.

Truth be told; my diet and internal environment (which includes hydration, pH

and elimination), were the basics. They were so basic that they were a given, a

requisite foundation for ANY protocol I might have embarked upon. In fact, they

are my protocol.

Fair question; the QoL acronym I used might

not be a conventional one. Quality of Life is what any responsible

person talks about (rather than cures) when dealing with naturals – a yet

unproven source of sustained response. A single or isolated viral clearance is

an anomaly I can accept. But no one, absolutely no one in the world (at this

point) should ever, ever, tell a newcomer that they can be cured if they follow

this or that protocol.

When you see the new clinical tests for

naturals, they consider QoL improvement as an indicator of success. Most of those

I know in the buyer’s club are achieving an enhanced QoL.

Jay,

In Canada we have been striving for Governmental and private insurance

to use one of the QOL tests that are available, to determine a

treatment or alternative protocol regime's availability for

reimbursement. At this time only one Canadian Province has moved in

this direction, but since a recent change in the government they have

slid back to the status quo in Canada.

As only 20% of the population infected with the hepatitis c virus may

benefit from current anti-viral therapies, why is the emphasis not on

the remaining 80%. These people have no choice but to avail themselves

of the best practices available to slow the disease's progression and

enjoy the best possible quality of life. For the majority of hepatitis

c sufferers the word " cure " is not in their vocabulary of terms used

when addressing their disease. Increased quality of life should be the

next buzz word for our community.

Jay, I'm in complete agreement -- isolated cures at this point are what we are seeing. Not all products work the same for everyone--so some may affect a cure for themselves. We may be a ways from seeing the masses cured. I remain positive, however, as I am an obsessive fighter when it comes to my health--and if anyone can cure themselves, it could likely be me. I will however accept my exceptional QoL (thanks for the clarification,Jay!) as a welcome consolation prize if said cure is long in coming. I remain hopeful that in the future something safe and affordable will come along to CURE everyone! Since newcomers are so vulnerable/scared or whatever, I agree we should be particularly careful not to make false claims. However, saying truthfully that natural therapies have greatly improved the quality of one's life is not the same thing. This claim I will continue to make, and I will attribute my good health to what I know works for me--clean living and positive thinking, natural diet, healing herbs and nutrients, pure water, exercise, and the care of the spiritual body.....Love and health to all, Satya

Yes, but if they don't eradicate the virus -- and the only way at this point of doing so is standard treatment -- a certain percentage of those QOLs will go on to develop _______, _______, and _________.

If you look to Germany you may find substantial info on the benefits

of Milk Thistle. It is my impression that milk thistle and several

other supplements are reimbursed by the German Gov.'s drug

reimbursement programme. I also believe France has a similar program

of reimbursement. Milk Thistle translated into French is " Chardon

Marie " In Germany I believe the botanical name " Silybum num " . I'm

sure if you " Google " any of those names you will find enough evidence

to support your claim.
