Guest guest
Well - I always thought that 'serostatus' was if you were positive or negative for HCV. You know, anti-HCV positive, or anti-HCV negative. I do think that is the correct meaning, but their use of the word does leave me a little confused. Why would an HCV negative person be calling about these studies? Maybe they are using the term to mean detectable or undetectable viral load? I guess the thing to do would be to ask if you call them! Guest guest
another thing if you have been infected since 1992---are the results of 1992 or recent? then have u having your LFT's checked ? if not than u should get your LFT's checked to find out biochemical activity.than a liver biopsy is also required to find out whether it is chornic active or chronic persitent type of hepatitis besides we also require an ultrasound scan of liver than after total baseline investigations you can (under the guidance of a hepatologist) start treatment for it. the results of treatment depend also on a large no of factors---like viral genotype(2 & 3 are goos reponders) to interferon & antiviral(ribavirin) hopefully this might answer few of yur questions Dr Shazia __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Thank you Dr. Shazia, my results are recent, I started the exams this year and I will do a liver biopsy next mounth and genotype test to start or not treatment. I Don't know about LFT , what does it means. My AST is 63 u/l and ALT is 120 u/l. My liver ultrasound scan show a light steatosis. Thank you again. -----Original Message-----From: shazia sheikh [mailto:shaziafsheikh@...]Sent: segunda-feira, 14 de maio de 2001 12:51 Subject: RE: [ ] I'd like to know also~sero-status~ PLUS - - - another thing if you have been infected since1992---are the results of 1992 or recent?then have u having your LFT's checked ? if not than ushould get your LFT's checked to find out biochemicalactivity.than a liver biopsy is also required to findout whether it is chornic active or chronic persitenttype of hepatitis besides we also require anultrasound scan of liverthan after total baseline investigations you can(under the guidance of a hepatologist) start treatmentfor it.the results of treatment depend also on a large no offactors---like viral genotype(2 & 3 are goosreponders) to interferon & antiviral(ribavirin)hopefully this might answer few of yur questionsDr Shazia__________________________________________________

Guest guest
This is in reply of inqiury about LFTS---- they refer to Liver function tests namely serum bilirubin total=0.3-1.1mg/dl; direct=0-0.3mg/dl serum aminotransferases; ALT=7-53 IU/L AST=11-47 IU/L Alkaine phosphatase=38-126IU/L, GGT,5'nucleosidase Synthetic products serum albumin=3.6-5.0g/dl prothombin time=8.2-10.3 secs these tests are a parameter to show liver functioning both in chronic & acute liver diseases It is good that you are proceeding in the right direction & i'd advice you to take therapy & complete it according to your physicians recommendation as you must know that hepatitis C is a silent killer with cirrhosis occuring after 2-3 decades if chornic infection ,than as cirrhosis progresses hepatocellular carcinoma can set in in this setting . there are so many cases of hepatic insufficiency due to cirrhosis in our ward & then they have so many complications (ascites, protal hypertension, upper GIT bleeding through varices, hepatic encephlopathy, spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, coagulopathy, hepatorenal & hepatopulmonary syndromes to name some)of it that it is better to get treatment at an earlier stage than to suffer . Unfortunately most people here dont even know that they have the infection & only come to us when cirrhosis sets in.so i think you are fortunate to know that you have the virus & take steps to eradicate it. go ahead with all your tests & do ask if you have any further questions ps all values given are normal best of luck DR SHAZIA __________________________________________________
