Guest guest
Delarita, Problems caused by a hiatal hernia can range from no problems at all to pretty bad problems. I think the main thing a hiatal hernia can cause or at least make worse is acid reflux or GERD. It was discovered that I have a hiatal hernia when an endoscopy was done prior to having my gallbladder removed in 98. For me, it wasn't all that big a deal. I had acid reflux but as long as I took pepcid, zantac, or something along those lines, I had no problems. Once I began losing weight after my gastric bypass I have had no more problems with acid reflux or indigestion. My husband has a hiatal hernia and he has acid reflux a lot worse than I did. However, as long as he takes Nexium (40 mg) a day, he really has no problems. I don't have any research to back this up, but it would be my guess that at least 50% of the population over the age of 35 probably have a hiatal hernia. For some it causes problems, for others it never does. I'm not trying to make light of it because acid reflux can cause lots of problems and pain. However, even if the hiatal hernia causes problems, it will respond well to medications in almost every case. I do think it is aggravated by smoking, drinking, over eating, and being overweight. All of which apply to my hubby - he's not a lush or anything but he does have about 2 beers every night and sometimes 3 or 4 on the weekends. He's also nowhere near as overweight as I was when I had my gastric bypass (I was 100 lbs overweight) but he could stand to lose about 30 lbs (which was 35 lbs only a couple of weeks ago, so he's going in the right direction). Guest guest
> > Hi Bee and Group, > > I hope you have had a wonderful holiday season. I haven't posted in a while. I'm and have been very faithfully on the diet for about 11 months. My family and I moved back to the US from Switzerland a few months ago. +++Hi . Yes I did have a wonderful holiday. Thanks. > > I love the diet and have continued without any cheats whatsoever despite no support and not much noticeable progress. I have tried different things to aid my progress, but still haven't noticed progress. I am still experiencing digestion issues, low thyroid, stress/adrenal fatigue, constant fatigue, extreme hair loss, and weight gain. I don't believe I've had any healing reactions/retracing the whole time. For the past 4 to 5 months, I've eaten a liquid diet. +++Liquid diet ? Do you have pureed foods, like meats, eggs and vegetables blended into baby food? That's quite a long time to not eat solid foods. +++What " things " have you been doing to aid your progress? It has helped with my bowel movements some. I didn't have my thyroid checked for a while with the move and was surprised when I was tested last month and my TSH level was 6! I had been taking Armour thyroid but just switched to a compounded natural thyroid. +++What were your TSH levels before starting on this program? > > I went to a Chiropractor and asked about a hiatal hernia. He checked me and said that yes I do have a hiatal hernia. He adjusted it by pushing up on the diaphragm. His method seemed opposite of how it should be - I thought the way was to pull down on the hiatal hernia or on the stomach. I talked with him about it in length before the second adjustment, but he said that pushing up the diaphragm is much better because it moves easily whereas the stomach doesn't move much and is bruised easily. I haven't noticed any improvement from the adjustments. I have researched again on the web and I feel like he should be pulling down on the hernia instead. What do you think Bee? +++I've always had adjustments where they pulled down on the stomach, and I adjusted my own hiatal hernia by pulling down. > > Also, do you think my lack of progress could be mainly due to this hiatal hernia and poor digestion? Do you have any other suggestions? +++What are your digestive problems? Also re-check your foods and supplements to ensure you are following the program correctly.
