Guest guest
Hey, I have a somewhat lighthearted question out there. I'm a big fan of haagen daz ice cream...even though the liver disease temporarily took away my sweet tooth (has this happened to anyone else)... I'm dying to try the new Bananas flavor that Haagen Daz is offering for a limited time. However, the ingredients include rum...I never really drank...basically a teetotler, except for special occassions...but I must HAVE this ice cream...do any of you all think it would be ok for me to try it. Also, cooking is a big hobby of mine and I like trying out new recipes. Of course nowadays, every other recipe requires alcohol in some form. For those of you who are weekend chefs like me, what do u do when a recipe requires alcohol? Do you substitute if for something else (if so, what?), use water, don't use it at all or use it knowing the the alcohol will " burn off. " Just wondering. Guest guest
Hey, well my stance is that the amount of alcohol would be minimal anyway.and when it comes to cooking using alcohol,my flat is amateur chef hour at dinner so often i come across a recipe using alcohol, once again the amouts are usually minimal, and the cooking burns off a lot of the alcohol anyway,i see it as a big difference between using a cup of red wine in a dish than actually drinking that glass.I don't know what everyone elses views are here, but thats mine,my dr knows i do a lot of cooking, that alcohol is sometimes necessary to a dish,he's never had a problem with it,i don't use a lot of alcohol in cooking, but the occasional dish,it's not an issue. hehe i say enjoy =) Amber >From: lia <ldm_12@...> >Reply- > " " < > >Subject: [ ] using alcohol in cooking >Date: Sat, 3 Nov 2001 19:38:19 -0800 (PST) > >Hey, > >I have a somewhat lighthearted question out there. His wife told me this; I don't know him personally. However, my doctor tells me that now that my lab tests are good I can drink in moderation. As I'm suspicious of this statement, I drink only small amounts for special "ceremonial" occasions. I never drank very much before AIH, either.
