Jerry-

I don't look as bad as these pictures for sure. I only have the

spots on upper legs, trunk and a few on my arms. Spider veins are on

my face mostly. Have a fairly decent one literally over the liver.

Looks kind of like a vericose vein. Got one like that on my right

shoulder blade too. But nothing looks like these pictures - yech.

The spots are just like what I have, but no were near as many.

I am at a loss here as to what to do. My insurance (and Joanns

referral list) list only the two clinics that I have seen. I don't

think I can go to Ruths doc because he is kaiser. Gonna keep

searching though. If I have to, I will travel to Seattle. No any

good ones up there Amy?

Love,

Carole

Hi,

My son has had these since he was an infant. The doctor did all the blood

work and said he was fine. yes it can be related to blood issues but it does not

mean that it is. He told me it was because kids with DS mottle easy because

their capillaries are closer to the surface and therefore it is easier to

break the blood vessels. As I said before all you have to do is grab my sons

wrist and you leave a handprint in petechiae form.

I thought that came from lack of O2. like someone being strangled. I was on a

jury once where this guy enjoyed choking his sexual partner. they showed pics of

her petechiae. It was horrible looking.

I don't know of it coming from anything else.

Have any of you with older children experienced petechiae? I came

home tonight (long lunch with Amiebell - 5 hours!) and has

petechiae on his neck and face. He looks awful. He is acting ok

(being bossy, playing with his beanies)- he says he is sick and has

been a bit meaner than usual.

Off to the doctor we go tomorrow........

They can come from low platelet counts, platelets that are not " working " as they

should, breaking of the very small blood vessels (capillaries), and for the most

common....unknown origin. I hope is feeling better.

Strangulation is one cause but there are many others. It can be caused

by a virus, bacterial infection, leukemia, etc. I had a client once who was 20

years old with MR. She complained she wasn't feeling well and had these red

spots on her legs - yeap - she had leukemia - so I've seen those spots before.

When I first saw the red spots, I looked to see if had tied

something around his neck - he had no ligature marks so I knew it was something

else. The pediatrician said most kids get this on their face after a hard

crying spell or yelling. When I asked Tim, he said was signing VERY

loudly - so I am sure that is what caused it. It also started to fade a bit the

next morning when I called the doctor.

I have seen this on one of my kids - my son (who has a hearing loss from

meningitis, and had surgery in one inner ear for cholesteatoma -

http://www.waycool.net/jeremy ) was being fitted for his first hearing aid in

one ear - happened at the time to be the non-surgical ear, and he was in that

year between surgeries on his cholesteatoma where he had no inner ear bones -

therefor no hearing in that ear..... and here we were shoving silicon into the

other ear to make the mold for the hearing aid - thereby cutting off the only

sound he had. He was young - between 2 and 3 - and it took three of us to hold

him still for the mold to set...... and he burst blood vessels in his face in

the process.... cute little red freckles....

.........ahhhh yes....

..... child abuse in one of it's very rarest forms......
