I would insist on a liver biopsy. It's the only sure fire way to diagnose AIH and see if there is any scarring already. I had my first one in Jan 2000, went to sleep for it, recovery went well. I had a 2nd one just a few weeks ago just to check my progress. I chose not to be put to sleep for this one (anesthesia scares me). It was really not bad at all. It's over so quick. That night I did have soreness at the incision site and pain in my right shoulder. That's very common I learned. Hope you find out for sure what's up soon. Take care, in Louisiana AIH 99' HI TERESA......THANKS YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS...... I HAVEN'T INSISTED ON A BIOPSY, HOWEVER, I HAVE TOLD THEM I FEEL ITS NECESSARY, BEC MY BLOOD WORK(4 times in 5 weeks) ARE SO INCONCLUSIVE!!! GASTRO DOC. SAYS NO WAY, LIVER COUNTS ARE NOT BAD ENOUGH!! SO THE BIOPSY IS NOT NEEDED, (even though liver enyzemes were creeping up at that time few wks ago) (but now lowering bec. of 20mg of pred a day) .......BUT FAMILY DOC. STILL PUSHING FOR IT... I MIGHT END UP WITH A HEPATOLOGISTS!! BUT OF COURSE HAVE TO DRIVE 3/to 4 HOURS TO GET THERE HA! WILL KNOW MORE, ON JAN 3.(family doc appt.) FOR CT SCAN OF ALL BODY ORGANS ON JAN. 2...... BEC I HAVE MULTIPLE THINGS GOING ON, SO THEY ARE TRYING TO PIN-POINT IT!!!!.....WISH ME LUCK!!!!! LOL! P.S. I HAVE HEARD FROM SOME PEOPLE HERE, THAT A BIOPSY IS NOT ALWAYS A SURE DX, AND DOC AGREES....BUT HEY I AM NEW TO THIS STUFF!! WHAT DO I KNOW???? I AM JUST A "GUINEA PIG UNDER CONSTRUCTION" RIGHT NOW LOL! HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!! TAKE CARE....GOD BLESS US ALL!!!!
