Guest guest
Spider angioma is so named because of its appearance: a central, red, elevated area with surrounding broken blood vessels radiating outward like a spider's legs. Many children and adults have a spider angioma. Causes Spider angiomas are associated with childhood, pregnancy, liver disease, birth control pills, estrogen treatment, and they develop for unknown reasons as well. Signs & Symptoms Spider angiomas classically appear as small, centrally raised bumps (papules) caused by a dilated arteriole (small artery). A network of dilated capillaries (tiny blood vessels) radiate from the arteriole. Pressing on the lesion causes the redness to disappear briefly, and there is a rapid return of redness once the pressure is lifted. Diagnosis & Tests Diagnosis of spider angioma is based on its appearance. Treatment It's not necessary to treat a spider angioma. If desired, it can be treated with electrocautery (a specialized instrument that cauterizes the vessel), laser, or injection of a solution that seals the vessel. It is common for a spider angioma to reappear after therapy. In that case, treatment can be repeated. Prevention No preventive measures are known. Guest guest
No Gloria, the palms of my hands never were very red. People used to ask me that all the time. The did swell some during treatment, but not red. From: Gloria <gadamscan@...>Subject: Re: [ ] Re: Spider Angiomas Date: Friday, March 12, 2010, 5:02 AM MargaretHow are the palms of your hands?? Did they used to be very red and have now gone back to normal since treatment??It seemed that every little skin tag or mole that I had also turned red and are back to being more normal since too. However, I have always been prone to these spider nevus. Boy, you should have seen them when I was pregnant!!! Then, it was no wonder that I never really noticed the red necklace around my neck, because, I had that throughout my 15 yr drinking career.Gloria I got these on my face (cheeks) during treatment. Will they ever go away? Thanks, Margaret>> Spider Angiomas> > > Definition: Spider angiomas, or spiders, are blood vessels near the skin's surface that look like thin red lines extending from a central dot. Usually found on the face and neck, these marks might temporarily turn white when touched, or disappear completely. They are often seen in people with severe chronic liver disease, in children, and in women who are pregnant or on oral contraceptives.> Also Known As: Nevus araneus, spider nevus, vascular spider, spider telangiectasia> > > Related Articles> > > Spider Nevus - Definition of Spider Nevus> Skin Bump - Definition of Cherry Angioma> Hives - Definition of Hives> Endothelium - Definition of Endothelium> Stenosis - Definition of Stenosis> > http://hepatitis. about.com/ od/stu/g/ spiders.htm> > > Instant message from any web browser! Guest guest
It's probably the red hair and light skin that I'm blessed with, that shows every mark etc. in glowing colours. I even have what I consider, as the worst dark circles under my eyes except perhaps my baby brother, who is just not ageing very well.Gloria No Gloria, the palms of my hands never were very red.
