They called me yesterday and said I go in on the 3rd which is tommorow i am suprized i got in that fast. I will let you Know what happens when its over with. Yes there r lots a emails to read lately I cant even keep up with them lol but it gives us some thing to do

Randy & Luanne,

I had the balloon dilitation on my bile ducts monthly for three years. They put in an accessible catheter and the balloon dilitation always worked. I was told they would not use a stint since they planned me to keep my liver for a long time (and if it slipped it waould make retransplantation very difficult). The way I understand it Stenting is only used as a very short term solution. Also a suggestion, the first access catheter was in the right duct. This is horribly painful as it is right next to the nerves associated with the ribs and everytime you move breathe or whatever it hurt. The second one they put into the common duct, it was right in the middle of my chest (couldn't wear a bra for three years but that may not concern you...it was fine. Even ran the 5K at the transplant olympics with it in.

Patty, I didn't realize that stents are only for short term use. My mom was given two stents in her ureters 10 days before she died. The doctor told us AFTER the procedure that they are removed and changed after 3 months. I nearly flipped out because I thought that sure my poor mom would NOT want that done. THEN the doctor told us that she probably had only two weeks to live. He was off by 4 days. God bless him though, he was being kind by giving mom a few more days of comfort by doing the stents. I am glad he did them!

Stents are really wonderful things. But I am wondering if the stents they do in the heart are more long term. THis is the first time I have been aware of stents....very good things to have if you need them!

congrats on your daughter. That is awesome. the best things in life are the events we look forwar to and cherish. I hope the best for ypou and your daughter. Plan the wedding and drive everyone nuts. Yes Debbie, blood in the arteries are not nearly as caustic as bile which is like acid. Very different. Stents are common in the heart angioplasty.Ureters I don't know about, urine must be more acid but I don't think anything is as bad as bile..

My son had a stent put into his ureter to open it up due to scar

tissue. It was only in for 6 weeks. My FIL recently had one put in

for heart, and as far as I know, it's going to be used long

term...unless something comes up. So, maybe they can be used either

yuck! You have a point in that the bile is very acidic! WOW.....what a trip. I don't know about urine, but you have a point, it must be full of acid, but like you point out....not as bad as the liver because that is where everything is broken down and where the urine could be acid, it couldn't be as bad!
