I have a question for the group, I was just diagnosed with AIH in December

and I'm not sure what all to expect, however, I have been having bleeding in

my bowel movements and now I'm seeing quite a bit of bleeding in my urine,

is this normal? I am currently on Prednisone and muscle relaxers for my

back, if anybody knows if they could please let me know.

I'm not sure if this is something I should have checked out now!! or can

wait till my appointment on March 19th.

thanks,

Laurie

Laurie....anytime you have bleeding in your stools and / or in your

urine you should have it checked immediately.....these are not normal

signs of liver disease . Blood i(fresh, red ) in your stool may indicate

serious bowel problems and blood in urine indicates kidney problems. Of

course these could stem from advanced liver disease but if I remember

your original posts you do not have advanced AIH but rather a mild case.

I believe you should see a doctor ASAP.

You are right when you say it doesnt seem right! I would go to a different doctor. Vomitting alone is a bad thing when the liver is a problem but vomitting blood is extremely bad. Alot of people with liver problems die suddenly because of esophageal(sp?) bleeding. Please go to a different doctor or insist that this dr does tests.

Take care

Hello Debby !

Umm so sorry that you ruined a new shirt. Whenever my internist decides to

do a full study is when I'm in need of good veins. Last month when I got to

the lab at this office I noticed a new lab technician which I don't mind if

they can be as good as betty (their regular lab tech). well he came in the

room and explained to me that he needed my best vein because he needed to

draw over 12 tubes of blood for all the labs that my internist had

requested. I told him to take a pick which he did and using a butterfly

needle went in and no blood. He kept moving it around but no blood so he

finally decided to draw back the needle to attempt another spot. Well the

funny part was that when he had the needle in my arm he could not get the

blood drawn but when he pulled out we couldn't get the vein to stop bleeding

so he had to change the dressing several times. Finally to my rescue came

Betty and with one strike drew all the tubes. Praise The Lord for a good lab

technician.

I received your christmas card yesterday. Thank You; the photo is just

lovely and is already framed in my bedroom wall. Could you ask tex if he

could send to me a copy of his last newsletter ?

blessings,

Tony Nuñez

Thank you everyone for the

information. I will receive a copy of my

labs on Monday, but indeed, I WILL be speaking to the doctor. The bruise on my arm grows bigger each hour it

seems! But I am a survivor…just

like the rest of you all! Thanks again

for your input!

If you enzymes are elevated you don't clot well.

I got my labs today, and

actually they are pretty good….elevated ALT and AST, but that is

normal. The Direct bilirubin was elevated, and the platelets were on the low

end of the normal scale….so the doctor won’t think anything is

wrong….oh well…guess that is going to be my lot. I just wish they could find out why I

bruise so…oh well….guess the bleeding from the lab was simply from

the lack of putting a pressure bandage…oh well…..

dEBBY i BLEED ALOT SOMETIMES BECAUSE

EVERYTHING i TAKE IS ASPIRIN BASED AND SOMETIMES MY PLATELETS ARE LOW.

Elaine, thank you for

your information? No, I am talking about bruising in

general. Everyday, I look at my

legs at night and find one or two more bruises. It is very frustrating. I talked to my GP today for a cold. I asked her about the bruising. She thought it had something to do with

my liver and ordered some labs…PT, PT INR, and APTT. The results were faxed to me. (I have started to ask for copies so I

don’t have to wait for the next appointment to get them...works for me). Anyway, all of the results were

high. I am not thrilled they are

elevated, but at least I know I am not going crazy! Perhaps my GI will see what is exactly

causing this. My GP is actually

more concerned than my GI…but my GP is one who won’t mess around…if

she doesn’t know what to do, she will send me to someone who does. She is a WONDERFUL doctor! Actually, my GI is also good, but

sometimes she just puts me off and says there is nothing wrong with me.

The one thing that does concern me is that

I don’t EVER want to go back on prednisone! It is the WORST drug in the world! I HATE it, but like many have said, the

alternative is NOT exactly desirable!

Anyway, today, the lab tech wrapped my arm

very tightly with tape and I had no bleeding of any kind….doesn’t

even appear that there will be a bruise!

Whoohoo!!

Hi Debby

I'm trying to catch

up on a ton of emails so forgive me if I don't have this story straight or if

I'm repeating info.

Are you talking about

bruising from having blood drawn? First of all, there is no direct correlation

between enzyme levels and clotting time. However, since the liver produces the

chemical that clots the blood, it is possible to have a slow clotting time

if your liver is not functioning normally. Clotting time is a separate

test and not usually part of a liver function panel. I had surgery when my AST,

ALT and biliruben were very very high but my clotting time was still ok.

I've found that the

longer I go having daily or weekly blood work the more likely I am to bruise.

There are a few things i do to minimize it. First and most

important, ask the phlebotomist to use as small a needle as possible with

a butterfly clip. Secondly, do not bend your arm after the blood is drawn--that

always makes me bleed out. I take the bandaide off quickly--like after a minute

or two. And lastly pay attention to which veins are more likely to bleed out.

My wrists and hands bleed like crazy. So does the vein on the inside of my

elbow, but the outside vein hardly ever bleeds.

I hope this helps a

bit.

Regards

Elaine

By the way-I just asked for help getting off the list...I am bleeding INSIDE-my esophagus- just had banding done and will have at least 2 more procedures-I keep getting suspended from Miami program as I am too sick to keep up with paper work, tests. I asked home health for social worker to help-I am 56, live alone, also need knee replacement! So getting around when weak, tired and hurting plus I get med for pain-I get hopeless. You can email individually but cannot take so many daily emails. Wish I could read all but just too sick. I am in Port Charlotte, FL

[ ] Re: bleeding

When ur blood work is off U will have low blood clotting factors. My daughter Kelsey had to be very careful for the first 3 months until her levels got better as her blood clotting factors were almost non existent. She wasnt allowed to do anything that would cause a fall, cut, bruise, etc. The good thing is the bleeding did stop. I think when U get ur results back U will be able to see why U were a 30 minute bleeder. Be sure to discuss this with ur doctor when U see him/her for the results.Trish> Good grief.today was rather interesting. I see the GI later this month,> and had my labs done before I forget.
