Guest guest
Does anyone have trouble swallowing? The food and even beverages seem to get "stuck" right after my throat and linger there feeling like I am choking and then slowly it finally goes down. I have had an endocopy and swallowed that stuff (can't remember the name of this test) so they could watch it go down and they said they saw nothing. This has gotten worse over the last year and now happens every couple times I eat or drink. Anyone else have this and know what to do? (No I have no heartburn or stomach upset.....it is all in the swallowing part)
Guest guest
Tammy, Have you ever had your thyroid checked? I had hashimotos with a goiter and had the same thing happen with swallowing! When I told people, they looked at me likeI had three heads, until I finally saw an endocrinologist and he asked " do you have trouble swallowing? " Hope you find out what it is. Guest guest
Tammy, I have learned that we may suffer from swallowing problems with our disease. I believe it may be due to dry mouth and lack of saliva, which is needed to coat the food we chew and help it " slide " down more easily. The feeling you have of food or liquid getting stuck is just that - there is a leaflike-shaped cartilage at the bottom of our throat that protects our airway when we swallow and your food may be resting there after you swallow. If the doc did a swallow study and found " nothing " , he/she may have been referring to the observation that you may not have aspirated (you may not have swallowed food or liquid into your airway), as this is what could be dangerous. I would suggest that you try smaller bites of food, chew well, eat foods that are moist, swallow twice for each bite of solid food, and alternate one bite of solid food with liquid. See if this helps and LET ME KNOW if it works! Jane

Guest guest
hi tammy, yes i have the very same problem. it started a few years ago along with muscle weakness etc. they tested me for myastheni gravis, which i now know to be an auto-immune condition. my doctor said that because i was tested some years ago ( and told it was all in my mind, and would I like to see a shrink) i said no thankyou. but because of my aih my doctor wants me tested again as this is a very commom disease for people with aih. i am going to the hospital next wednesday for my 1st checkup since the diagnosis, so i will ask them. hope you can sort this out because its very unpleasant. let me know how you get on. love anita (the witch) > > From: tammyanng@... > Date: Fri 03/Jan/2003 10:07 GMT > > Subject: [ ] Question re:swallowing > > Does anyone have trouble swallowing? Guest guest
hi tammy, i do have the same problem as you have. not very nice is it. i do have a hiatus hernia, but was told that had nothing to do with it. some years ago, when swallowing 1st became a problem and i also suffered from muscle weakness (before the aih dianosis). they tested me for myasthenia gravis which i now know is an auto immune disease. they said i was fine and would i like to see a shrink. i cant write my reply. anyway, i mentioned this to my doctor last week and he told me to ask to be tested again when i have my 1st check up at the hospital next wednesday. let me know how you get on. its not a very nice symptom. i hope you can get it sorted. love anita (the witch) > > From: tammyanng@... > Date: Fri 03/Jan/2003 10:07 GMT > > Subject: [ ] Question re:swallowing > > Does anyone have trouble swallowing?
