Hi!

Ice is my friend in my shoulder too. In the past I never seemed to

get releif from ice, when I injured my back and shoulder a couple of

times. But my daughter was in physical therapy for a while, and I

told the therapist it wasn't helping her and it actually hurt to use

the ice. She then informed me we were not giving it near enough

time. She told us to leave it on until it is numb. That it takes a

while for the cold to get down deep in those joints. She told us yes

it will hurt, possibly badly at first. But that will go away when it

is numb. So armed with this info, we go home and try it - my

daughter on her foot, me on my shoulder. She was right, it became

pretty excruciating, but I stuck it out. I could actually feel the

releif all the way down my arm to my fingers! Releif I hadn't felt

in years. So naturally, I hit my other joints and had the same

response. Some days if I had enough packs to help everything that

hurts, I would look like a football player! I wear the shoulder ice

pack enough that my husband and kids call me Quazi Moto (sp?) So

obviously there is a swelling problem of some kind in our joints.

Ice shrinks swelling. Heat on the ohter hand is to encourage blood

flow to the area - something that increases your inflamation. Just

wish these docs would beleive us and figure out what causes it.

As for my daughter it helped her too. But she then reinjured, and

reinjured her foot. So, she has to give up gymnastics all together.

Did not make her happy. I remember when she broke her wrist in

gymnastics years ago when she was about 5 or 6. She was so upset

then too having to take a small break til it healed. But she was

even more upset that she may not be able to do her school work. How

I ever got such a serious kid I will never know. The oldest I always

had to kick in the butt to do her school work or even get up and go

to school. The youngest I actually have to make stay home, and then

listen to her nag all day about what she may be missing in history or

english. I should have had a third, maybe that one would have been

right down the middle!

Keep icing! And dancing!

Love,

Carole K
