My adive is to be prepare to mangage it. Keep notes on blood test result, try not to eat preservatives, sugars and salt and walk or excersise as often as possible. Bike question - we put " FatWheels " training wheels onto a 20 " bike for this Christmas, and they work very well. They keep her stable enough to enjoy riding a bit with the family, though she has no interest in getting them off and doing it herself. They have different sizes at their website, and give the weight they will support and size bike. A bit expensive, but well made and they work! Running question - door alarm ($10 at Home depot), hung up high (we used a cuphook near the top of the door) so that runner could not turn off alarm to alert us when doors were opened. Can be set to " chime " or " alarm " . At least you know when they open the door. Keep your shoes on at all times, so you can be ready to run outside and chase :-) When out, we now use the IonKids device that was suggested on the list. More expensive than some other " kid alarms " , but with the exception of not being waterproof, it is PERFECT. Child can't remove the watch-looking wristband, you can set the " acceptable " distance for the child to go from you, you can locate the child if they get out of the " safe " area, etc. Bought it online at QVC.com, and you can read about it at the IonKids website. You can set it to " sleep " if you are going to be seperated from the child briefly (like when you go on a ride at Disneyland and your wristband-wearing kid doesn't)........ I usually forget, and they when we are " out of range " , the wrist band beeps (so the child knows they need to come back to parent)....... looks at my DH and says " Daddy, Mom is lost again " . Winter is a time when I know there will be no escape attempts - but has spring fever in a big way. I sat outside with him (thank goodness for saduko puzzles and housework can wait!) for a few hours last night while he played with his beanies in the front yard. He's in and out - ringing the doorbell to get back in - and being independent to a degree. I've worked with him to TELL me he's going out instead of preventing him from going. We are getting there. Anyway, we use the brass flip locks (like in the morning before I get up) and I caught jumping up and trying to flip it open. He almost got it, too.
