Bert, the first thing that came to my mind was toxoplasmosis, which you can get from infected cat litter or very rare beef. Ask your doctor about that possibility . My husband was about to undergo very risky exploratory surgery for a lump at the base of his skull, when a doctor thought to test him for toxoplasmosis. That's what it was -- the lump went away, and there were no aftereffects from the toxoplasmosis.

Someone suggested cat scratch fever, which is a different disease.
