Hi

Just wading through the posts, so I'm a little late with this.I was

diagnosed with AIH in 2000, although I probably had it before that.I

was not put on meds straightaway but just monitored until I had a bad

flare last summer. I don't know what my levels were, but I was

jaundiced.I was started on 30mg pred, and 100mg Imuran (azathioprine)

My numbers started coming down straightaway, and one week later pred

was reduced to 25mg.After 2 weeks down to 15mg,after 4 weeks down to

7.5mg,after 9 weeks 5mg,after 10 weeks 2.5mg, and stopped completely

after 13 weeks. The reductions were done in the light of frequent

blood tests. My doctors - a major liver transplant centre - are keen

to get people off pred if possible; When I got off the pred I

asked " when will I be reducing the Imuran? " - that had stayed

unchanged at 100mg - and was told " never, and it might even go up! "

Luckily I've been ok with it.I'm still on monthly blood tests, and it

surprises me when people on it say they are only tested very

infrequently, because I understood frequent blood tests - both lfts

and full blood count- for people on Imuran were important because of

the known possibility of it causing bone marrow depression. My doctors

say on this dose of Imuran I may not get another flare, but if I do I

will go back on the pred until it is controlled.

Hope you have a very nice Easter

Love Pam - Leeds, England
