Guest guest
Anita, I hope you are feeling much better this AM. Sometimes I get that pain in my stomach and also feel sick. When I had it the last time, the Rheumatologist told me I was flaring. My GI had not told me it was a flare. Oh well. I wish I had a magic want to make it go away! I guess like my GP told me, that I am stuck with the pain and am just going to have to live with it. Hope you have a better day....and I commend you and your husband for trying to get you marriage back on track. Debby

Guest guest
Sophie, I know my mom is wishing for the same ability to eat chocolate...in fact she thrived on it, major comfort food and all. Interestingly enough it has a high level of iron, which may aggravate her hemochromatosis so she has quit " cold turkey " . As to the comment re your AIH, I recently biopsied a cat's liver that had NORMAL liver values, but was still loosing weight. It came back the cat equivalent of moderate to severe lymphocytic/plasmacytic cholangiohepatitis. None of the " specialists " in our field can explain it either, but once on increased pred, torb, flagyl, and other meds she is doing great! :-) Hope your biopsy can provide answers, and goes smoothly. Guest guest
I wanted to comment on the fat and chocolate issue.. Anita said something about not being able to have it, but I don't recall chocolate ever being contraindicated in AIH or most other liver diseases except maybe in NASH diets. What am I missing? jerry
Guest guest
Sorry about the doc lingo, its late and I regress to the familiar. I am assuming the L-P cholangiohepatits is what you are referring to. Basically, it refers to the types of cells noted on the biopsy and what type of liver tissue is involved. We tie this together with blood work, clotting profiles, and physical presentation. How the cat is doing at home eating/actiong/drinking/box habits etc. are all very important. It is very much like putting together a puzle without the picture on the box to help. In cats the cell types are a sign of an inflammatory/immune response much like humans. I currently have placed the question to the " internal med guru's " as to how it may relate to AIH in human's. This question has produced a lot of further questions, but no answers.:-( What I was trying to state is that lab values are not always indicative of how things are going on internally. They are merely a piece of the puzzle. The only true way to know about how the liver cells are responding to treatment etc. is to sample them. I hope this clarifies things, Kat Re: [ ] Re: fat (no body nuts here!) digestion > Kat....explain it......heck I bet half of them can't pronounce it! > > >
Guest guest
It was a joke... I understood what you were saying. Re: lab values. what we here refer to as liver function tests aren't really indicative of the livers function at all... more meaningful data can be accumulated thru albumin measures and prothrombin time. A biopsy is perhaps the best way to see what condition ones condition is in. And of course response to treatment is a very valuable tool.
