Hi

Where did you get the camomile capsules? At a health food store or drug

store? They sound like they are worth giving a try. Sky doesn't have

any allergies, that I know of, so hopefully she wouldn't have a reaction

to the. Anything to help her with this emotional rollercoaster she is

going through every month.

Thanks

Hi

Sorry I was so long in replying, things have been pretty hectic around

here last few days. Thanks for the info. I will check that out at our

local Health Food Store next week.

I think VCO helps a lot -- so does calcium/mag/D. There seems

to be a whole " syndrome " that happens in " modern " countries

involving minerals and fats -- I tend to think that part of it

at least is our reliance on cereal grains, which leach minerals

and block absorption of minerals. Esp. wheat. If we ate

more of a rice/fish/meat/veggie diet with VCO, as the Thai

folk do, there would be a lot less problem.

Does anyone have any idea what would work or is

working for PMS in a young teen of 16? I have waisted

so much money in these health food stors through the

years on crap that didn't help. I hope you guys have

some suggestions.

My husband mentioned Sam-e, what do you think?

Thanks,

my PMS & onset has kept me from work 2-3 days at a time every month -

I'd also like to hear suggestions for dealing with this - especially

cramps- i'm trying to stay away from taking painkillers and whatnot

Oh Marci, i know your pain.

i gain 4-6 lbs. the week before and literally get suicidal for a few days. being

on the Pill has helped even out some of the mood stuff, but i totally know where

you're coming from. as far as cravings go, i hate to be a bad influence but i

often give into them sort of half way style-like, i'll want a bag of chips so

i'll buy one, eat 3, and crush the rest up and throw them away. it's a waste of

money, but the guilt it saves me is worth the fifty cents. the hardest part for

me is just getting out of bed on those days, and if i've done that, it's an

accomplishment. give yourself some slack if you're not feeling well...or push

yourself and tell yourself that you're releasing all sorts of great chemicals

into your body from the exercise. i know that in the past when i've stuck with

what i was doing, even if the scale was going crazy or i wanted to cry all the

time, a few days after it's over i see some results. they're just slow coming,

you know? they're hiding for a week. :) take care of yourself!

I highly suggest going on a bc pill or shot. They have helped me out

quite a bit. The pill I am on now is called Seasonale and it only

gives you four periods a year, which helps greatly in reducing

monthly PMS symptoms and I haven't noticed any negative side-effects

from it besides during my first 9 months of it, I had some spotting

here and there. It doesn't make you gain weight and it's my beleif

that bc pills don't do that anyways.

So look into something like that. Maybe your gyno could suggest a

pill that's just right for you and some exerices to releive cramping

or stress.

Some of my friends who deal with PMS have found relief with Sarafem

(prescription) when problems are really severe and others have used St.

's Wort successfully. You could Google for these on the internet if

you think you might like more information. Hope these suggestions help.

Mrs Bishwits' Peanut Butter Protein Cup. I think that is the name.

That and the BFL cheesecake in EFL...these two things carry me through

PMS.

Have you tried Evening of Primrose Oil? I don't get PMS pain, etc. but

I have heard that this works wonders for PMS symptoms. Flax oil is

supposed to help also.

Hey , I tried switching to Seasonale but my period (too heavy to be

spotting) forced itself upon me after 2 months. Same thing again after

another 2 months. I gave up and switched back to monthly. But yes, the pill

has largely cut back on the PMS pain for me.

Marci,

Some times it seems like God played a practical joke when he made

women... well... after all Eve did eat the forbidden fruit and the

punishment was pain for child birth.... and hence all that goes with

it...LOL

FYI I don't know how you feel about any kind of birth control but I

know when I tried to come off of it one time OH HELL NO!!! I could

not believe what my body started doing. Breast tender back hurt,

ALL symptoms..... personally I feel women should not have to endure

that every month... I don't care what Eve did!!! I am now on

Deprovera and don't even have a cycle... I am changing however

because there is osypirosus (sp) in my family and I need a form of

birthcontrol that allows me to have a cylce to create estrogen. In

a few months I believe I am going to try the RING.... several of my

friends are on it and said it works well instead of the patch....

and is only 20 bucks for three months much cheeper than the pill.

I can't help you because I don't deal with a month problem, but I

can help make the monthly problem go a way....LOL

I hope you feel better!!!!

I've been lurking for several months because of the end of nursing school (2

more weeks to go!!!), but I had to chime in on the Ring. The Nuva Ring is

awesome!!! I leave mine in for the entire month, then immediately put in a new

one. I do that for 3 months in a row, then give myself a break for a week. I

have to do something like this due to such severe cramps (I was taking

Vicodin...you know they're bad when 2 Vicodins don't get rid of the pain). I've

had horrible cramps since I was 13 and it's not uncommon for me to miss a day or

two of school or work because of them.

I was going to get the patch at my last annual but my Gyn talked me into the

ring. He gave me one for free (inserted it in the office) and after the month

was up, I loved not having to think about the pregnancy thing at all, I filled

the prescription. Mine cost $38 per month, unfortunately, due to my insurance

not covering any birth control under $40 (that's where my insurance kicks in),

but it's worth it not to have to think about taking the damn pill everday.

Plus, I was missing pills all over the place because I work 2 nights a week from

6:45pm until 7:15am and I can't take the pill unless it's right before I go to

sleep due to the severe nausea I get. So on the days when I would work, I would

take the pill at 8am after getting home, but then I would have to switch back to

10 or 11pm on the days when I had to be up at 5am. I was getting me all screwed

up and I was afraid I would end up pregnant (not quite time for that yet!).

The Ring is a wonderful form of birth control. I refuse to go on Depo because

of all the side effects it causes me and I like the idea that the hormone in the

Ring is right where it's supposed to be. It doesn't have to travel through the

rest of your body to get to where it has to do its job. I recommend it for

anyone who is busy and doesn't want to have to think about BC every day, or

every week...or for those who don't like getting poked in the butt or arm once

every 3 months!

= ) (who will be back on the boards once school is through..not to

mention back on BFL)

Be careful though, A lot of antidepressants cause between 10-30 pounds in weight

gain.

I am new to this board, but had to give my input on

birth control!

I was on Depo for about 5 years, and found out that it

is not good for you to be on for more than 2 years,

because your body will be calcium deficient!

I then tried the patch (I would never remember to take

a pill!) and I hated it! The patch was horrible. It

was easy to remember, but it always got stuck to my

jeans, or it would start to peel off, and I'd have a

ring of black around it because all of the fuzz from

clothes would get stuck to its edges. I also would

have to use more than one a week sometimes because it

would peel mostly off.

Anyway, after that I was told about the Ring. The ring

is great! My insurance doesn't cover it either, but so

far it has been the best. Though I loved how with depo

I never had a period, (but because not having one for

5 years is probably bad) I would tell everyone to get

the ring!

My sister uses Sarafem with great success! Just my 2¢

Re: PMS

Some of my friends who deal with PMS have found relief with Sarafem

(prescription) when problems are really severe and others have used St.

's Wort successfully. You could Google for these on the internet if

you think you might like more information. Hope these suggestions help.

Ladies, I need some help. I know I can't be the only one who has

total freak out moments during PMS. Has anyone else found a positive

way of dealing with this?? It feels like every month I set myself

back 10 steps because of cravings and other symptoms. For instance, I

was doing so well for the past couple weeks, then had a free day that

turned into two free-for-all days. So I am trying to get back on

track today and did well, but then I forgot my 430pm meal so when I

got to the gym I could barely make it thru one exercise. I left the

gym nearly in tears. I went home intending to eat and go back to the

gym a little later. Now I am home trying to make myself get back out

the door. I hate hate hate going thru this every month. I wish I

could just keep my momentum going for more than a two-three weeks at a

time. I feel like my progress would be so much better without going

thru this every month!!!!! If anyone has any suggestions, I would

really appreciate it. I just want to keep going and keep making

progress! Marci

Hey girls! Many of you have replied to this post by Marci and I want to

add my two cents. It sounds to me like you are all dealing with PMDD

and not just your ‘run of the mill’ PMS. There is a BIG difference! My

sister has PMDD and is on a prescribed anti-depressant (Zoloft) for the

disorder. It is like day and night when you compare how she feels now

that her gynecologist has helped her figure out what is wrong. I have

attached a few links that describe the differences and you can decide

for yourselves if you might be dealing with PMDD instead of PMS.

Hi Carolyn,

Thanks for the feedback on the PMS. You might be right about it being ovulation because I get little symptoms right after my period is over and I can always tell ovulation is coming. This might sound stupid, but do we sometimes not ovulate? Oh that had to sound so stupid. I mean I don't get these PMS symptoms like this very often well I can't remember when the last time it was that I had this and it was PMS time, but I do remember feeling really irritable before like this, but it was a long time ago.

I'm sorry about your bikki, why would your son do that? I can only imagine your stress. I have a soon to be 20 year daughter and that is all we have, but I do get my 3 year old niece and I can only handle her for short time and she goes back home lol I hope when she gets a little older she will be better to deal with, but she can be a real handful.

You hang in there as well and thanks for feedback.

hi michelle! i also get pms-like symptoms around the time that i ovulate

(which would be right in the middle of the cycle). it is kind of hit or

miss whether i ovulate or not so sometimes i get the symptoms, sometimes i

dont. maybe it is ovulation time for you and that is why you are getting

some PMS stuff.

goofy hormones!!! they make me feel like such an idiot... last night i

was all bummed out (and still feel depressed about it this morning!)

because i had my bikini top hanging on the clothes line to dry and our son

took a pair of scissors to my brand-new top and cut off the straps that go

around my back. i might be able to wear it if i can squeeze it together

and tie a quick knot in the back but i would be worried all of the time

about it coming un-done while swimming, etc. and how the heck am i supposed

to get it off again, if i manage to get it done up? so there goes a whole

new bikini down the drain! ugh!! it seems that if i give him heck for

something he gets mad and strikes back :( he is only 6 and this

distresses me very much! so that is my PMS (or whatever) upset for today

::sigh::

hang in there michelle! my dr says that the majority of women have wacky

things going on with their hormones. when i feel like im in the throes of

a hormone attack (lol) i just try really hard to hang on tight for the ride

and try not to say anything to anyone that i might regret later.

I'd do something less distructive, but just as effective. Freeze all his underwear and then let him put on a pair in the morning!
