Hi Group,

I just resigned from a group that I have been actively involved with for

7 years in our school district, and started packing up my classroom last week

-- it's really kind of sad all the the changes, so I had a good cry and lots

of hugs. I maintain my optimism to be able to work part time next year but

it's not looking real promising but the school district will do whatever they

can to assist me if I want to try and my dr. okay's it. Some of these

changes make it just that much more real... Just need a few days to regroup!

Dear Ruth,

Overdoing it? You sound just like me - it's so hard to let go of

things! After all, nobody could do it with the same feeling as I have :)

It's nice to hear your feelings, too.

Hi Amy,

I relate to what you say about life changes. I just had to go on-

call temporary basis at my job because I haven't had the energy to

work in my housekeeping job. I work at a beautiful retreat center, I

look out on this beautiful lake with all this beautiful wildlife and

it is so peaceful. The people I work with are the neatest group of

people I have ever worked with, we are like family. This week I was

kind of depressed because I didn't work at all, and since the retreat

center is associated with Fox University, human resources had

me write a resignation letter. It was so hard, I know I have been

hurting my health the last three years working three part time jobs

paying for tuition for our kids to go to private Christian school.

But until I got the new diagnosis of AIH I would work through the

pain and push the M.S. beyond my limits until I would get really sick

and than it would take me 6 weeks to get back to feeling better. But

I think I am grieving the disease and also like a person who retires

from their job. I was feeling I couldn't be as useful. Than I

realize how stupid, here my job as a mother and wife are the two most

important jobs I have and I need to be as strong as I can be to take

care of my family. My dear friend at work said I may not be working

there every day, but that the relationships would still be there. I

decided too that it was time to give myself a break, I always feel

like it all depends on me, but now I am learning to share the burden

with my family and not try to shoulder it all on myself. Sorry, I am

so long winded, Amy, I am glad you shared what you shared, it gave me

the courage to voice what I have been feeling. Thanks for listening

everyone.

God Bless,

Ruth

Amy,

My heart goes out to you, I hope you will know the difference you

have made in people's lives and how precious I am sure you are to

them. I'd rather invest in other's lives and know the pain of saying

goodbye than going on my own merry way not connected to people and

building on relationships. We can say we have known the richness of

investing in people's lives, what a great honor and privilage that

is, and how rewarding. Amy, I look forward to getting to know you.

Love,

Ruth

Amy, what grade do you teach? I am facing that problem too. I DONT want to quit, but am finding that my weekends are filled with lots of sleeping. It is getting harder and harder for me to maintain my work. Fortunately, I only have 27 more days left, but that will be a long time! I am praying every day that I can just continue to the end of school. This disease is really getting to me. I teach First Grade

Dear Debbie,

I teach first grade, too! I know just what you are feeling. I went to

work a week longer than the dr. wanted me to just in order to organize and

try to make the transition as smooth as possible for my kiddos. It's such a

glorious but exhausting age group to work with, plus it's difficult to avoid

infection, etc. because they need their hugs (and so do I!).

Have you thought about taking some time off now, a couple of days at a

time? I know it's hard with planning but maybe you could do more basic stuff

for those days. My disability will kick in soon which will help with medical

costs. One thing we have in our state is a sick leave for intermittent

absences caused by cancer or chronic illness that you can sign up for. We

also have leave sharing so that other people in the district can give you

some sick days. Do you have anything like that - it sure has been a

lifesaver for us especially now that my husband got laid off 6 weeks ago.

I know the fatigue and the physical energy it takes for first grade. Be

gentle with yourself so that you can give them the best you can right now.

Amy, my GP doctor wants me to stop for a while, but I just can't. My mom died last month and I took an extra week off. Then just before she died, I took another week off because I was just too sick with the colds the children passed along. On the whole, I have been able to avoid the colds, etc. because I have been using essential oils in the room before and after school. That has kept the infection rate for me down. True, it IS hard to keep away from those little germs-especially when they sneeze right on you! YIKES.....

My familiy wants me to NOT teach next year, but it is important that I do so. I do have a special disability that I can get paid 75% of my salary once I have been gone 7 days, but with such a few days left, I will just tough it out. Then, if I cannot function any longer after school starts in August, I will just try to do what I can and take some time off. But, maybe I will get to be better after the summer vacation has begun.

Right now, my husband takes care of the laundry and most times, the kitchen. If I am able to cook, he cleans it up. I also do a monthly newsletter for a support group for bereaved families we run in our town. It is a national group, and we have lots to do for it. But it is a good group and I love doing the newsletter.

Goodness, I wish you the best of luck. I hope you can get ahold of this soon so you can go back next year!
