LIVER TRANSPLANTATION....

When I was 15 years old (now 48 years old), I was diagnosed with Mono with

high liver enzymes and enlarged liver/spleen. I was treated with prednisone

with a relapse within a year. Since then I have been feeling fine with

" slightly " elevated liver enzymes throughout adult life. I have a history of

thrombocytopenia with a count holding at 80. This past weekend I was

admitted to the hospital with a kidney stone. A CT scan showed the kidney

stone and also showed scarring of the liver with portal hypertension and

esophageal varices. To my shock, my physician told me I needed a liver

transplant. I then had a liver/spleen scan and ultrasound. My family and,

especially me, are so upset about this and shocked. I have no symptoms of

cirrhosis and find it very upsetting about liver transplantation. I am

investigating the best university hospitals on the East Coast for the same.

Could anyone please give me some feedback?

Thanks!
