Guest guest Posted August 29, 2002 Report Share Posted August 29, 2002 I am sorry I spell terribly Enbrel is an injection taken twice a week. You take it in the stomach or the leg. My doctor suggests shooting it from the injection system into a diabetic needle and then it won't hurt at all. This is a great breakthrough for RA, it helps with the fatigue and pain. The swelling is reduced and I can open and close my hands and walk on my feet. I am taking 8 mg. of prednisone a day for the AIH and now the Enbrel twice a week. Just got finished with the shot a few minutes ago. It is a great. I do have to say I was on cyclosporine also for a few months, because the RA was so bad, however I developed a severe gum infection and didn't know it as I was so supressed. Talked to my doctor this am and he said he might start back on the neoral later, but not yet. So I have taken 3 supressants for these diseases. Hope this helps. My rheumatologist has just given me Celebrex, but some days I can hardly make a fist because my finger joints are so stiff. SOmetimes, a couple of my fingers swell so badly that I cannot make a fist. Occasionally, they get red and tight. BUT, rather than dx with anything more, the doctor just says they treat all autoimmune problems the same and won't do anything else about it. I have shoulder pain too, but that is from my spinal stenosis. A couple of years ago, I was out of work for 2 1/2 months until the doctors finally got it settled down.
