Hi

I'm one of those unlucky people who have not responded to the medication. I

was diagnosed in Aug '99 - no fibrosis. My next biopsy was in July '00 and

it showed I did have some fibrosis (probably around 2nd stage - I can't

understand the report fully and they talk about stage 1 and stage 2). My

third biopsy was in April '01 and I was sure I'd have cirrhosis because my

blood counts had been up and down but nowhere near normal. By this time, I

think my ALT and AST were around 100 and 200 but going up and down. I still

didn't have cirrhosis, but there was some stage 4 fibrosis with linking, I

think the linking means the cells are linking and that's when the cirrhosis

is about to start. I don't know what's going on now, but the doctor is

trialling me on Neoral as well as the prednisone, imuran, ursofalk etc etc.

He doesn't want to increase my prednisone (I'm on 7.5 mg) because it's been

increased before and the LFTs go down for a while then up again and in the

meantime, the prednisone causes fractures in my spine. My last fracture was

in May '01. Since I've been on 7.5 mg - no fractures (cross fingers) and I

feel much stronger in my bones???

I think the AIH can progress once blood counts are under control, but I

believe it is fairly uncommon???

Forgive the long reply - couldn't keep it short.

Regards,

Bozena
