I was interested that you told that the fibrosis "came later". Does that mean that your disease progressed while under treatment? And if so, how long did it take? How long have you had it? I was told that once the disease was under control and LFTs stayed normal that further damage would cease or be negligible. Has that not been the case with you? Jean I have always believed AIH to be a progressive disease. With control, it may progess very slowly. I think damage may continue even if "numbers" are good, but any significant problems will probably be reflected in the lab tests. Guest guest
I believe that even though your numbers are "normal" the disease can still be progressing, just hopefully at a much slower rate. That is why my doctor said he would be doing a biopsy every 3 to 4 years as that is the only way to determine "the damage". However, I'm changing doctors next week so that could change!! They can't cure the disease, just keep it under control and hopefully go into remission. I hope this helps and I hope it's accurate. I"m learning every day. Guest guest
Hi, I was told by my specialist that it is chronic and progressive; although going into remission on the autoimmune disease may slow down the progression of the cirrhosis.
